Awesome Dads Assemble

AwesomeDadsAssemble

Last June 19, third Sunday of the Month, children around the world greet their dads and treat them with super special care, said their heartfelt gratitude and i-love-yous. It is the day sons and daughters recognize the hardwork, perseverance, care and love of their superheroes, their superdad.

Our company’s Family Welfare Committee decided not to let June pass without giving dads in the office a chance to gather around. Cool enough, this 2-hour gathering let the dads (and moms too) hear parenting talk, showcase dad’s stuff and just get together.

Since I was not able to attend last months gathering of moms, also hosted by the same committee, I did went with the dads from my team (just to get some popcorns and snacks..sshhh 🙂 Thankful for those popcorn cravings as I was able to hear Mr. Randy Cabahug’s talk and his perspective of dad being a superhero. I like that somehow there is a connection and somehow make everyone realize that we are heroes in our own little way.

The Incredibles

Mr Incredible – the partriarch of the family having super strengths
Elastigirl – the mom with the ability to stretch her body
Daughter – becomes invisible and can generate force shield
Son – possessses super speed
Baby – who’s yet to discover his ability

In a typical family, dad is always portrayed to handle things that needs strength – open a tight closed jar, carry the gas stove tank, fix the roof’s leaking while mom is flexible to have everything covered – prepare the kids lunch meals while ensuring breakfast is already in place, she knows everything in its place. Teens in a family like to have some privacy and at the same protect the family from bullies, aloof from everyone yet one wrong rumor and expect the fury; and then there is always that hyperactive kids in the house. The Incredibles fight the villains together promoting closeness or companionship like eating meals together or praying together.

Captain Marvel

Alter ego of a boy who, by saying the magic word Shazam, can transform him into a superhuman based on the abilities in six ancient heroes as what each of the letters in the word Shazam mean. Children would love that their daddies have these abilities.

These are:
S – Wisdom of Solomon
H – Strength of Hercules
A – Stamina of Atlas
Z – Power of Zeus
A – Courage of Achilles
M – Speed of Mercury

Now I know dads are referred as the pillars of the home.
According to Mr. Randy, research shows that when dad reads to his daughter everyday until 2 yrs of age will definitely love Math while when dad reads to his son everyday until 2 yrs of age will improve his verbal development. I wonder what’s the correlation?

Fantastic Four

Just as Mr. Fantastic can’t defeat Doom alone, he needs the Human Torch, the Invinsible Woman and Grimm and so is every member of the F4 team. It makes four to be fantastic, it makes four to triumph. So are dads, he needs the 4 Fs too — Faith, Family, Friends, Foundation.

Avengers

awesomedadsassemble_avengers

I learned from that talk that the Avengers was influenced by group of Jewish who survived the Holocaust and that these survivors group themselves with the aim of avenging their family. Well, Marvel’s Avengers is a group of superheroes with the aim of saving humanity from bad guys. Though different goals, the key word here is “assemble” — the capability to group themselves. Mommies, its okey for dads to go out and had fun with other dads. Fleeting impact to know that dads are not alone (so are moms).

This gathering through our company’ is surely helpful to let dads of all kind meet, bond and talk. Amazing, isn’t it?

awesomedadsassemble_lex

There you have it. So the next time you watched superhero movies. Bear in mind that you have that S in your chest too… just waiting to unleash!

Thank you Family Welfare Committee.

Inside Dreamworks’ Dreamplay At City of Dreams Manila

DreamPlay_Entrance

With the nice building architecture and with those shining golden strips, City of Dreams Manila will surely get anybody’s attention. Wikipedia states that the place is a luxury integrated resort and casino complex located within the Entertainment City of Manila. One of the building displays the huge DreamPlay signage with Shrek on it which obviously attracts little people like my kids. This luxury entertainment building not only have amusement for adults but also offer for kids — DreamPlay by DreamWorks. Since the place is located on our way to airport’s Terminal 4, we decided to check the place while waiting for our flight going home. We were very grateful that the husband tag us along on his business trip in Manila.

DreamPlay is a DreamWorks movie-inspired interactive entertainment that offers Play, Create and Learn as their slogan suggest. Activities are influenced by the three DreamWorks movie – Shrek, KungFu Panda and How to Train Your Dragon.

The site indicates:

However, we had to pay 880 for all the four of us on a Monday afternoon even if we plan to avail the 2 hours stay only. Reason? Peak Season! Initial fix rate for both kids and guardians at P880 fix rate! — promise! sakit sa bulsa!

Anyways, with the thought it might take the family awhile to go back and visit Manila again and we were already at the DreamPlay and to avoid ending the vacation with a disappointment, we gave in… for the kids, for the kids in us, for this moment 🙂

So here are our photos on what we did while inside DreamPlay and you’ll be the judge if its worth the pay 🙂

My ExpoMom 2016 Cebu Experience

ExpoMom2016-Cebu

MommyMundo has been very helpful to mommies around the country. Being a community, they bring together moms to bond, connect, share parenting stories and motherhood experiences. And with the community’s encouragement and support, moms never feel alone. More than just a community, Mommy Mundo also launch interactive exhibits and onstage activities through ExpoMom which pave the way for mom to be updated with the latest mommy and baby trends, new products and new technologies. More so, it is a gathering of mommies…of all kind.

Interestingly, this gathering not only happen in the capital but also to major cities around the Philippines. Last June 18, ExpoMom2016 visits Cebu and I’m glad I visited as I would have missed these things:

Bento Lunch Making
This is the main reason why I set my June 18 for ExpoMom. I really want to witness firsthand the actual preparation and creation of a Bento lunch. Bento pictures are so lovely that I wonder how long for moms to prepare just to have that beautifully crafted lunch. I plan to just watch, listen and learn. Next thing I know, I’m one of the participants. Me and Mommy Rose of Mommy Wanders was invited to join but when Mommy Rose went out from the venue for awhile, someone came and occupied her reserved seat before she can return. Every mommy seems ecstatic to participate 🙂

I was amazed at how easy and fast it is to make a bento lunch. Not a hassle if you have all the necessary foods and materials. I only need to unleash the creativity side of myself 🙂 Goodluck to me!

Product Choices
There are plenty of booths that caters mommies, babies and kids. This ExpoMom2016 give me an opportunity to get to know latest baby products and toys for kids.

Freebies and Special Discounts
Some brands offer special discounts surely moms like me can’t resist. Very happy that I was able to take home these freebies from Belo Baby Products 🙂

Thank You ExpoMom 2016 Cebu and Staffs. I had so much fun 🙂

Sky Ranch Tagaytay Experience

SkyRanch_Tagaytay

In our short stay in Luzon, we went to see a glimpse of Tagaytay too. We just want to let the kids personally see Taal Lake and the crater which are mentioned in their Civics and Science textbooks.

SkyRanch_Tagaytay5

We went to see Taal Lake and Volcano thru Sky Ranch Amusement Park. I had to say, this park is expensive! Entrance Fee is at Php80 and each rides has its own cost from Php50 to Php150. They don’t have entrance + ride all you can package or some sort. Considering there are plenty of rides to choose from and with 2 kids in tow, I’ll definitely end up money less!

SkyRanch_Tagaytay1

Inside the park are gazebos for rent, green and clean ground that I like it for awhile until I realized that they used artificial grass. Maybe because the management know that real live grass cannot withstand daily footstep from everyday visitors. Nonetheless, I still don’t like the idea of using artificial grass.

SkyRanch_Tagaytay3

We decided to ride only the famous Sky Eye — ferris wheel taller than that of Enchanted Kingdom. One loop ride cost Php150 around 8-10 min. It still is expensive but we grab it to have a chance to see the beauty if Tagaytay and Taal Lake from bird’s eye view.

SkyRanch_Tagaytay4

Then the rest of our time were spent taking pictures or watching the beauty of the lake.

SkyRanch_Tagaytay2

SkyRanch_Tagaytay6

It rained for awhile and after we rested, we head back to Batangas.

Sky Ranch Tagaytay is expensive, we hoped they’ll improve the ride costs to accommodate those who have limited budget 🙂

Happy Father’s Day Papa Taniel

HappyFathersDay

Dear Papa Taniel,

Thank you is an understatement word for all the love, dedication and perseverance you give to our kids. But this Father’s Day, I still wanna say Thank You.

For forcefully getting up from bed just to prepare their milk.

For the out of tune lullabies just so they could have a good sleep.

For lunchtime and afternoon calls to ask them on how they are doing.

For correcting the kids’ behavior and instilling in them the positive outcome.

For calmly bring them to the hospital in the wee hours to ensure their health.

For teaching them that studying and doing school works are fun and entertaining.

For sparing precious times just so you could play, sing, dance or just talk with them.

For injecting in them the advantage of delayed gratification and that NO means NO.

For being a clown and bringing laughter and joy in the house with your jokes and amusing antics.

For letting them explore the world (I mean, the neighborhood), make new friends and play with them and that a wound and an argument with friends is nothing but part of childhood.

And most of all, for reminding them to always be grateful for the goodness and everything, for good health, for guidance. For reminding them to pray everyday. I know for sure they will grow to be good kids because you are their dad and because you ask guidance from the Greater Dad above.

As I’ve told you, I’m no superwoman when it comes to parenting, but still love taking this crazy wonderful journey with you, being you as my superhero, and being my kid’s superdad. We are not yet halfway there and praying and hoping by the grace of God for more years of being together so we can create more memories with the kids and (we may have flaws but) hoping and praying we can guide them especially in their teen and adulthood years.

Thank You.

We Love You.

Expo Mom: The Motherhood Journey Goes to Cebu and Negros

Cebu-flyer-0527

The motherhood journey is different for every mom. Some find taking care of their children an easy task. They are perhaps blessed with the ability to adapt quickly to different types of situations. Others need a little more time to get used to the rhythms of motherhood, and make sure to arm themselves with advice from family and information from books and the internet.

But whether you’re a mama in Manila, a nanay in Cebu, or an iloy in Negros, you are one in loving your children unconditionally and wishing for them only the best. More so, you may find solace, support, and inspiration from the mompreneurs, partners, experts, and your fellow moms of Mommy Mundo’s Expo Mom community.

On its ninth year, Expo Mom shines the spotlight on the joys and challenges of every stage of mommyhood with The Motherhood Journey. By bringing it to different destinations, from Manila, Cebu, and Negros to Alabang, Davao, and Cagayan de Oro, Expo Mom hopes to reach out to more mothers across the country.

After its successful run in Manila last April, Expo Mom 2016: The Motherhood Journey makes a stop on June 18, Saturday, at the Ayala Center in Cebu City before moving on to Negros on June 25, Saturday, at the North Point Mall in Bacolod City.

At Expo Mom, moms will be delighted to discover practical solutions as well as relevant propositions to their most pressing problems and issues. Aside from bringing in expert resource persons to facilitate workshops and group discussions, Expo Mom will also be showcasing the latest mom, baby, and child-oriented products in the market.

Flying in from Manila to Cebu are Michele S. Alignay, MA, Registered Family Psychologist, who will lead a discussion on the joys and challenges of the motherhood journey, and the moms behind the highly popular group, Bento Mommas, who will teach moms how to prepare delicious bento meals for their children. Cebu’s all-day program also includes a fitness activity and cooking demonstration sponsored by Caltrate Plus, a finance management workshop by Sun Life, a product showcase by Downy Babt Gentle, and a skin care talk by Belo Baby. The Negros leg will feature the same program.

The lineup of exhibitors in Cebu include ClearAScar, Cycles and Cradle, Sanicare, Babyzone, Modern Mama, Baby Mum Mum, Vpharma, Boba Philippines, Halo Sleepsack, and The Nest. In Negros, the participating exhibitors include Caltrate Plus, Belo Baby, Downy Baby Gentle, Cycles and Cradle, Sanicare, Babyzone, Five Little Monkeys, and Halo Sleepsack.

Having Fun at Enchanted Kingdom

EnchantedKingdom_Entrance_1

Because hubby had a scheduled business trip to Manila last month, I thought to accompany him together with our kids. Its been awhile not seeing Manila again and this opportunity is a waste to disregard. It will be our 10yo’s second visit while 4yo’s first. Me, my sister and hubby with some our college classmates used to work in Laguna way back our younger years and the thought of visiting Manila and Calabarzon area again makes me feel nostalgic on fond memories with work and colleagues and friends or waking up early to catch the bus ride to work, leaving office desk the first time the bell rings to catch the first bus ride to home, malling during off-duty days or having fun and experiencing the thrills at Enchanted Kingdom.

Enchanted Kingdom is a theme park located in Santa Rosa, Laguna. I’ll name it as the happiest place in Laguna 🙂

About 15-30 minutes travel from Sto. Tomas, Batangas thru Star Toll and South Luzon Expressway. We stayed at my brother-in-law’s home in Batangas.

Aimee, my brother-in-law’s wife suggested to go after lunchtime to avoid early heat exhaustion from hot summer weather. Also, my brother-in-law offered to drop us to the park as he will head to Sucat for a meeting. Thankful that we did, since the theme park did change their schedule to open at 2PM. Ticket costs is P500 for Adult Regular Pass and P250 for Junior Pass for kids below 48in height. With the entrance cost, we get to enjoy unlimited use of park’s rides. With the cost though we were warned that there are rides that needs height requirement and our 4yo might not be able to ride on it.

The 4yo was not in the mood at first, I’m not sure if he got scared from the huge crowd and long queues outside the gate or from the wizard statue or from the warm weather or from afternoon nap.

Our first ride was the Dodgem (Bump Car). It is supposed to be mine and or 4yo’s ride but he didn’t feel better yet. Still I rode to get the feel of being young and having fun again 🙂 It is a 2-minute ride to bump anyone in your way. I got problems maneuvering the steering wheel so I get to spend half of the time figuring how to used it thus, I got bumped instead.

EnchantedKingdom_DodgeEm

Our next ride is the Up, Up and Away (Ballon Ride) but it got me dizzy. Those rides which will lift you up and swing you around through the air.

EnchantedKingdom_UpUpandAway

I still feel dizzy that I did not have the courage to ride the Roller Skater (small roller coaster) and EKstreme Tower (a sudden drop from above) ride. But hubby, Ate Coy and our 10yo did.

EnchantedKingdom_RollerSkater

EnchantedKingdom_EKstremeTower

Our 4yo started to enjoy the park when he saw dinosaurs and when he was able to ride the Bumper Boat and Air Pterodactyle (airplane ride) while the rest of the gang went to ride the Flying Fiesta.

EnchantedKingdom_Dinosaur

EnchantedKingdom_BumperBoat

EnchantedKingdom_AirplaneRide

Next ride is 4D Rialto — showing Rio. The show was nice and colorful. The 4yo doesn’t like getting shake on his chair or getting wet from the sprayed water, worst he doesn’t like wearing the 3D glasses. The 10yo loved the show and wants to watched it again.

EnchantedKingdom_Rialto

Hubby and 10yo also tried the Space Shuttle (big roller coaster).

EnchantedKingdom_SpaceShuttle

Our 4yo so want to try the Air Racer but was not allowed due to height limitation. Rider needs to secured because it is a 360 ride. Imaging being upside down from the ground. Amazing.

EnchantedKingdom_AirRace

But settle for Jungle Log Jam.

EnchantedKingdom_JungleLogJam

Because they are already wet from water ride, we tried Bump N’ Splash to get wet.

EnchantedKingdom_BumpNSplash

We rode on Anchors Away. It is a pendulum ride. The last time I rode this, I seated in the back and it was scary. I don’t have the courage to sit at the back again thus I settled in the center but, I still feel those unbearable shakes in my tummy.

EnchantedKingdom_AnchorsAway_2

The best ride we have or rather our 4yo had was RioGrande Rapids, good thing queues are not long thus we got it enjoy the ride thrice. Happiness is when you see your kids getting excited being swayed from the water rapids or the giggles from the thrills of getting bumped and wet. It was the best for us.

EnchantedKingdom_RioGrande

After changing clothers, our 10yo and Ate Coy ask for one more ride and tried Disk-O-Magic. Its like Anchors Away plus a revolving seat but was not able to take a picture already.

Overall, it was so much fun. our 10yo and Ate Coy enjoyed the extreme rides while 4yo enjoyed the water rides.

Thank you Enchanted Kingdom for the fun and thrills. Till next time.

Exploring Manila Ocean Park

ManilaOceanPark_Entrance

When you are in Manila and you tag along with you your kids, Manila Ocean Park is for you. Located across Roxas Boulevard and just in front the Luneta Park, Manila Ocean Park is a recommended place to explore freshwater and seawater creatures. My kids love water so much thus, a visit to the park is surely a good idea to get up-close and personal with the marine life.

Went there on a weekday to avoid the crowd and because its summer, we were able to avail their summer promos wherein they combined different attractions for a certain price. We chose a 580php package and that includes a visit to Oceanarium, Back of the House, Jellies Exhibit, Sea Lion Show, Sharks & Rays Dry Encounter and the Symphony Evening Show.

Arrived at the park around 10:30AM and because we still have to queue for our tickets, we were not able to watch the 11AM schedule of sea lion show, thus have to start our exploration in the Oceanarium.

OCEANARIUM
The main attraction of the park which consist of the 4 sections — the Agos, the section which will greet you as you enter the oceanarium, displays fresh water animals and crocodiles; the Bahura, a dark room with lighted aquariums, thus you’ll be dazzled by the fishes with the reefs and corals as their colors are emphasized; the Laot, fishes in the deep of the ocean and the Buhay Ng karagatan, the tunnel with lots of fishes, sting rays and sharks.

ManilaOceanPark_Oceanarium1

ManilaOceanPark_Oceanarium2

ManilaOceanPark_Oceanarium3

We spend most of the time in the aquarium that we forgot to take our lunch. No worries though since food stalls are available inside the park, not much options to choose but enough to satiate one’s hunger. Be aware that the prices were a bit high.

BACK OF THE HOUSE
After our lunch, we went to see whats inside the back of the house attraction. The noisiest room as it pumps water from the bay. This room reveals how they get water from the bay, the water filtration and oxygenation process so the marine creatures gets to enjoy the clean and safe water.

SEA LION SHOW

We waited for the 3PM schedule to watch the sea lion perform. The 20-minute show displayed stunning tricks of the two sea lion together with their respective trainer. Tricks like giving a big smile, a flipper wave, their ability to retrieve the lost items, their jumping skills, their dancing skills and they even kissed one of the audience. I personally admire how these animals gave us a good show, even my kids were amazed on how talented these sea lions are.

ManilaOceanPark_SeaLionShow1

ManilaOceanPark_SeaLionShow2

Though they are not harmed, I have mixed feelings for the sea lions which were used for peoples enjoyment. I wonder why this is allowed 🙁

SYMPHONY EVENING SHOW
We were not able to stay long to wait for the fountain show as we need to travel going down South.

Tips:
– There are plenty of attractions not included in our package like the Trails to Antartica (Penguin Exhibit and Snow Village), Birds of Prey Kingdom, World or Creepy Crawlies, Fish Spa and Aquanaut. It is recommended to spend an entire day to visit all attraction.
– Foods bought outside are not allowed, though there are foods stalls inside, they are bit pricey.
– Bring camera but be aware that some areas prohibits the use the camera flash.
– Be mindful of the schedule of the show, they will not let you in when you are 5-10min late.
– Baggage counter is available inside the park.
– Enjoy 🙂

School is Out, More Cuddles are In

So school is over and still I haven’t got a chance to look for summer classes that is closer to home… and its been 3 weeks already and the kids are getting bored.
The 4yo wants to go with me to work if not let me stay at home and not work at all. He never accepts my explanations in fact retorts back that bringing food to home is his papa’s job.
Ohh! How tempting! But with school fees increasing and loans and bills and everything seems so expensive these days, I still can’t give up this job. I know I missed a lot of my kid’s growing years but I..we can’t bear not bringing food or providing shelter or giving education for them either. So while we are blessed with these jobs as our main source of income, might as well be thankful and instead find a way to accommodate and spend quality time with our adorable kids.

When school is out, I had a chance to spend more or less 2 hours in the morning and another more or less 3 hours in the evening with the kids, plus a few minutes in between calling them if I can and ohh that is without considering those time when I check my phone or them playing on their gadgets or us watching TV. I do admire the husband who really can spare time to make a call and talk to the kids.

Thankfully, these kids still gave me hugs and kisses as I arrived home from work.
The 10yo has always something to say… stories and jokes and complaints on how her brother behaves while the 4yo likes to snuggle saying he missed me so much and that he and her ate are in dispute on some toys or on the iPad. It melt my heart when he requested me to not to go to work instead stay at home and play. How bittersweet.

MamaAndMy10yo

MamaAndMy4yo

But while I can have their hugs and cuddles and while they still love to snuggle beside me…
Might as well enjoy it very very well.

Mommies, enjoy that hugs and kisses from your kids, now 🙂
