A Day in Cebu Safari and Adventure Park

Cebu Safari

Last weekend, we were given a chance to take a peek Cebu’s newest destination for nature and animal lovers — Cebu Safari and Adventure Park — at Sitio Toril, Carmen, Cebu.

Carmen is a municipality located next to Danao City and is dubbed as Cebu’s Northern Oasis due to its abundance of fresh water and springs. This water supply supports the town’s vegetation and farmlands as well as its neighboring town. Large sugarcane farms are also evident aside from cornfields and mango farm. This town is making a name as it houses the soon to be an eco-tourism destination in the Philippines, the 170-hectare park for animals named as Cebu Safari and Adventure Park, which is owned by Cebu’s pawnshop magnate, Michel Lhuillier.

With tips from Missus V’s post and an available slot for 5 persons scheduled for last Sunday, our attendance was confirmed. Though the park is not publicly open yet, special previews can be booked at PHP 800.00 per person, inclusive of lunch. Kids below 2 feet are FREE while 2-3 feet gets 50% DISCOUNT (PHP 400.00). Regularly check for announcements in Cebu Safari FB Page or email at sales@cebusafari.ph. Only reserved guests will be allowed to enter as there are limited slots per special preview. Park opens at 8AM and closes at 5PM.

It takes approximately 30km ride from Consolacion to Carmen and 8km ride from the national highway to the park. For our convenience, we rode on our own vehicle. Be aware that the park is located at a higher altitude. For old model vehicles like ours, be sure to check the vehicle’s condition before hitting the road. Ours tend to overheat when trying to climb higher terrains, so we have to take it slow. Thankfully, we made it to the park without engine troubles. If your vehicle can reach Temple of Leah at Busay, Cebu without problems, then you’re good.

We arrived at Cebu Safari and Adventure Park at past 9:00 o’clock in the morning and were told to went straight to the ticketing counter for confirmation. Once confirmed, we were given park’s bracelet tag (ticket) and meal stubs.

Itinerary

Orientation:
The staffs greeted us with warm welcome. We were given an overview of the park which housed 111 different kinds of animal species. They discussed the Dos and Don’ts while in the park, our lunch schedule and options on where to take our lunch. Trams are waiting for us to lead to our first destination. These trams are available to take us anywhere within the park.

Orchid and Mayana Farm:
First stop was at the garden where the matriarch’s collection of orchids and mayanas are displayed. According to the guide, the orchid farm is a 40 year old heirloom.

Tiger Turfs:
We saw spotted deer and peacocks on our way to the tiger turfs. With the thick glass that separates the dining area and the tiger, viewer has a face-to-face chance encounter with the animals. Hope the glass is too strong in case the tiger flares up 😉 (or might not happen though since their tigers are way too calm 🙂

Orangutown:
When we reached the pavilion, we caught this Orangutan swinging in the tree and those Celebes Macaque, with a funny looking butts waiting for the peanuts thrown at them, were just fun to look at. We feed them with peanuts.

Roundabout
We ended our adventure at the Cebu Safari and Adventure Park’s roundabout featuring statues of the animals.

Overall it is very recommended for family activity. What I personally like about the trip is the chance for wildlife interaction and of course be educated. Rather than caged, I love that they can roam freely and while I don’t have the opportunity to travel and visit the African Safari, this park is the closest that I can get to be just meters away from giraffes, zebras and tiger. Surely you’ll enjoy it!

A Day in Solea Mactan Cebu Resort

Solean Mactan Cebu Resort

Last weekend, we went to Solea Mactan Cebu Resort to experience the place for a day. My brother-in-law and his wife were in town for the weekend. For first time visitors, we brought them to Sto. Nino Church and to some tourist spots like Mactan Shrine, Temple of Leah and Taoist Temple. Aside from places, we had them indulged local foods especially the freshly catch fish from the province’s seas. Seeing their faces surely assured me that they were delighted 🙂 especially on tinolang isda. They also tasted the panga from Tinda Locale and even if its restricted from my brother-in-law’s diet, they still devoured it with gusto! hahaha Lami Gyud!

Knowing that Cebu is being surrounded with beaches and seas, we also thought that we would let them experience white sands and beaches and snorkeling and sardines. However, due to time constraints, this suggestion was not considered — but on second thought, since Mactan, is at proximity, why not visit one of Mactan’s beach resorts and let them peek the island’s beauty.

Mactan is a major tourist attraction in the province as it offers its pristine beaches. It also offers island hopping and deep-diving and because there are plenty of resorts in the place, additional water activities are offered just like jet skiing, banana boat, sailing or kayaking. Plus these resorts also put up swimming pools and kid’s water playground for another option of recreation. Sounds fun, isn’t it?

Last minute inquiries to some resorts brought us to Solea Mactan Cebu Resort. The only option with an affordable price compared to other luxury resorts. Here, we were able to enjoy a Day Use package from 8am to 5pm, priced at P1800 per person and P900 (50%) off for 5 – 12 yrs old.

Inclusions for a Day Use package (as of Feb 2017) were:
– Entrance Fee
– Access from all its amenities from 8am-5pm
– Beach Towels and use of Shower Rooms
– Access to the beach and swimming pools
– Access to kiddie aqua playground
– Buffet Lunch at Earth Restaurant

Solea Mactan Cebu Resort - InfinityPool1

The resort is remotely located at Barangay Alegria, Cordova, one of the islands in Mactan. Indeed! it is secluded from the hustle and bustle of the city. We hired a taxi from Pacific Mall, Mandaue to the resort which amounted to P220.00 (metered) and an additional 40% of the total fare was given even though the driver didn’t ask for additional fee.

Receptionists were accommodating in giving lots of smiles to the clients. They gave me a detailed information on what we can avail on our Day Use package. No welcome drinks though (maybe not available for day use users, I haven’t got a chance to ask).

Solea Mactan Cebu Resort - InfinityPool2

The resort has infinity pool, pool with lounges and kiddie pool with slides. Be aware that the tiles near the infinity pool is slippery that we have to tiptoe walking on it and be extra cautious. Though they have big fans that will help dry the tiles fast but then again, there’s no harm in being too careful and besides, children are not as mindful as parents, are they?

I personally like the pool with lounges. I stayed there enjoying while watching the father and son playing at the slide 🙂 For the kiddie pool, the kids love the slides, surprisingly the youngest is not afraid to use it. The best part was that its not too crowded that they can go back and slide again. We also checked their Aqua Playground and it was also a hit. Their lagoon was not available that day and because the beach is a bit far, we didn’t tried it.

Solea Mactan Cebu Resort - Aqua Play

Lunch buffet is available from 11:30 PM to 2:00 PM. Lots of food choices from salad, cold cuts, bread, pizzas, pastas, local dishes, chinese and korean dishes, sushis and sweet treats. Enough option to satisfy one’s hunger from swimming 🙂 Drinks are ordered separately though (not part of the lunch buffet package).

Overall, day use in Solea Mactan Cebu Resort gives a day of relaxation and enjoyment. Will definitely go back (if budget permits…hehehe) to try their rooms too for a much longer indulgence. Hopefully!

7 Lucky Dishes for the Chinese New Year 2018

Chinese DinnerPhoto Credits

The dragons may be dancing in the streets this Lunar New Year but this 2018 ushers in man’s best friend – the tenth Chinese zodiac sign, the Earth Dog.

The Chinese New Year celebration is full of various traditions that many people follow to ensure good health and prosperity – from new clothes, colors, feng shui charms and of course, food!

To help your family have an auspicious start this Year of the Earth Dog, Electrolux is sharing with you a list of traditional dishes that are not only delicious but also deemed lucky by Chinese tradition. Serve this up during your Chinese New Year feast.

1. Noodles (happiness and longevity)
The Longevity Noodles or changshou mian is a dish that’s always present in Chinese New Year celebrations as well as birthdays. It is said to symbolize a longer and happier life for the one who eats the dish. These are longer than the usual noodles and are always left uncut.

2. Dumplings (wealth)
It is said that the more dumplings or jiaozi you eat on Chinese New Year’s Eve, the more money will come in the incoming year. This belief comes from its shape that resembles the old Chinese currency called ingots. Even the pleats in the dough should be a good number as if it’s too flat it is believed to signify poverty.

3. Spring Rolls (wealth)
Usually filled with vegetables or meat, spring rolls or chun jun comes from the Chinese name of the Spring Festival, chunjie, which is when they are traditionally prepared. They are said to bring you wealth since their cylindrical shape and golden-yellow color are similar to gold bars.

4. Oranges and pomelos (fullness and wealth)
These fruits are particularly lucky because of their circular and “golden” color, symbolizing fullness and wealth. They are often used for decoration as it is also believed to bring good luck and fortune or given as gifts in a fruit basket. It is also said that the more you eat these fruits, the more wealth you will receive.

5. Fish (prosperity)
Fish in Chinese is called yú which sounds like “surplus” in Chinese. It represents prosperity and as you eat fish you hope for abundance for the coming year – niannian youyu. Fish is usually served whole for Chinese New Year celebrations as a symbol for unity in the family. Make sure to leave leftovers for the next day to signify a welcomed excess in prosperity.

6. Sweet Rice Balls (family togetherness)
Traditionally served in a sweet and syrupy soup, sweet rice balls or tang yuan purports unity, harmony and togetherness due to their round shape. They are also associated with reunions.

7. Tikoy (higher income or status)
In China, this glutinous rice cake is called nian gao and sounds like it’s saying “getting higher year after year” or nian nian gao sheng. This is why rice cakes have come to symbolize an increase – it could be a literal increase in height, a business rising up to success, or a person getting promoted.

Preparing for the Chinese New Year’s Eve feast does not have to be a tedious task with Electrolux kitchen appliances. The NutriFresh French Door Inverter Refrigerator EHE5220AA comes with a FreshShield Crisper that has a unique tight seal to keep temperatures stable, minimize water loss and provide higher humidity so that fruits and vegetables stay fresh for up to 7 days.

Help Handog Lingap hosts a fun-filled day for 800 learners with just PHP1000

Help give 800 learners with disabilities a fun-filled day of exploring their capabilities with just PHP 1,000!

Handog Lingap

Now on its 10th official year, JCI Manila’s Handog Lingap 2018 is putting together another day of fun and learning for indigent and special kids with bigger, better, and more sustainable things in store to help them thrive.

Approximately 1 out of 7, or roughly 5.1 million Filipino children, are living with disabilities, according to UNICEF’s latest report. With the lack of understanding and resources available to them, these kids suffer from unmet health needs and societal stigma which ends up limiting their development and opportunities.

Every child brings something unique and special into the world. JCI Manila has long been celebrating this, recognizing the role each child plays in our nation’s future through its annual flagship and legacy project, Handog Lingap.

This coming March 12, 2018, over 800 indigent children with special needs and their teachers from public schools in Manila under the Department of Education’s Special Education (SPED) Program, will be treated to a day of fun and learning including several activities to help them explore their potential.

Handog Lingap is raising Php 800,000 to make this event possible. Supporters (individuals or groups) can sponsor a child for Php 1,000 each. This will go directly to the event for the kids, from their meals, to their gifts, transportation, and various activities.

Activities:
Swimming Classes led by Bert Lozada Swimming School will give the children the interactive physical activity integral to their development.
Disaster Preparedness Workshop by Frederick Dalena, which will equip caregivers and kids with knowledge on how to save their lives in different high-stress scenarios.
– Transition Programs Forum will also be held to start the dialogue on how best to transition children from SPED schools to the workplace.

“We are celebrating a decade of bringing joy to these kids this year. So we want to go bigger and deeper, reaching more children and making a lifelong impact in their lives.”, said Handog Lingap 2018 Project Chairman, Francis Talion. “We want to equip them with important life skills, giving them the chance to improve their quality of life, empowering them with compassion and inclusion, and giving them the support they need to succeed.”

Handog Lingap, along with its partners Department of Education (DepEd), Bert Lozada Swim School, Dare to Care, and Golden Heart Manila, would like to invite everyone to help make a positive impact in the lives of indigent children with disabilities.

It takes a village to raise a child. Interested individual and corporate supporters can visit the official crowdfunding page at http://bit.ly/HelpHandogLingap or follow and message @helphandoglingap on both Facebook and Instagram to learn more. Donations in kind are also accepted, any heartfelt support will go a long way in helping make the world a bit more special for these kids who are, most often than not, unseen, unheard, and misunderstood.

Love Letter on a Hearts Day

Mommy Affter Work - BhoandBalot

Dear Ang,

17 years, 3 months and 7 days ago, we were officially together as I agreed to be your girlfriend. You must have love me that much that you ask me again to be your girlfriend after being rejected. I’m glad you did ask again because I already felt the same way, I am thankful for the persistence.

When I failed the ECE Licensure Exam, I tried to stop the relationship that just started. I want to focus on my review and I didn’t want to get distracted as I prepare to retake the board exam. But then, you must have love me that much that you give your all out support. In fact, your encouragement and constant reminder to study were not a distraction at all. Somehow it help me pass the April 2001 ECE Licensure Exam.

You chose to work up north, I chose down south. It was a long distance relationship, but then, you must love me that much that you invited me to work at same location with you. I did follow you but still, work hinder us to spend valuable time together as we worked on different shifts. But then, those love letters and text messages were the best. It brightens my day despite the stress from work.

You accepted a favorable job offer down south and leave me. Thankful that the setup was just for awhile and that you must have love me that much for you saved all your pay just so we could get married as soon as possible. We got married and I gave up my blossoming career and relocated, excited to start a family with you.

As we get to know each other, slowly we started to struggle with our everyday conflicts. We argue and get frustrated as ours was not a perfect relationship. You are disappointed in a lot of things especially when I cannot meet your expectations. We failed to compromise — from choosing a day’s meal to choosing the right discipline method for our kids. But then, you must have love me that much that you tried to be patient with me, you choose to understand me, you choose to pray and hope, you choose to reconsider, you choose to love.

Hope you’ll never get tired sticking with me.

I love you and Happy Valentines Day.

Always,
Balot

When decluttering becomes difficult

pixabay - clutter roomPhoto Credits

I am a hoarder. I think. I have a heap of stuffs tucked in one room. These stuffs according to the husband are trashes and consume much space, I, on the other hand, considered these items of sentimental value. I haven’t got the chance to sort these out and because I’m afraid to might throw something of value, I just have to let these stuffs sit and sleep for awhile. But then, the husband is already complaining because the room’s content for him is an eyesore. Call me over dramatic but I just can’t throw the artworks of my daughter or the test papers of my son. Those kindergarten handwriting or the wedding souvenirs or the toys they played when they were younger. I just can’t let go, not now! In fact, I’m in nostalgia already!

If you’re a hoarder and being pushed to clean up and encounter some anxiety issues during the de-cluttering process, here are some tips that can might help you.

One location for all stuffs
Yes, you need to at least provide boxes for your stuffs. Label for easy identification. You can even categorize them if you want. What I want to emphasize is to put all your storage boxes and things in one location or room. Thankfully for me, we have a spare room for all my stuffs. As long as the door is closed, I’m still safe from the husband. And yes, these items do really take a lot of space so I yep, I hear you, need to work on this as soon as possible.

Sort one at a time
Thankful for weekends as it gives myself an opportunity to check one storage box for sorting at a time. Cleaning up my stuff for a day is not possible. There are weekends that I can’t check the room and sometimes I do feel lazy just by the looking at the boxes. The husband though constantly remind me to clean the storage room. If I have an opportunity to declutter, I just assess the item as either as “I keep it” or “I throw it”. If I still have doubts, I put them on “I keep it” box and assess it again .

Seek help
If you are no longer hesitant to get rid your stuffs, you can hire a home cleaning service. They don’t consider sentimentality on each item thus easier for them to make your home spic and span.

Why A Good Night’s Sleep Is Fundamental To Family Health

pexel - sleeping girl

Everyone wants a family life full of positive vibes and good relationship with everyone, right? A healthy family members also means a happy life for everyone but this might be difficult to achieve when someone falls ill or sick, or the whole family indulges in an unhealthy habits. The entire family dynamics suffers. Of course, people cannot help falling ill, surely there methods that can be help avoid this malady.

Nowadays, health professionals advises everyone, especially the parents, to reconnect with sleep and develop a healthy sleeping habits. Here are some collected tips and hopefully everyone can glean from it. If you’ve figured out that something in your family dynamic needs to change, assessing the wholesome health of each member of the family can be a great place to begin.

It Nourishes
Of course, sleep is something we all need to survive. However, as a child sleep is even more important than a child could ever know. It might be hard getting your unruly toddlers to sleep when you want them to, but that should never mean they are allowed to stay up late at night. A regular and consistent bedtime is important if you hope to allow a child room to develop and grow in the best way possible. Sleep builds and rebuilds the body, and all aspects of healthy development will be tainted without it. Sleep nourishes, and for that reason it’s one of the more important things to get right, from ensuring the bed is never too hot, the room is ventilated and the right mattress from ChooseMattress.com can make all of the difference.

It De-stresses
Sleep allows your children time to subconsciously reflect on and heal from the day they’ve just lived. Being a child is not easy, as learning to be a human as well as the constant responsibility of schooling and social dynamics can take a toll on them. A good long sleep nightly is their best defence against being worn down from fatigue, allowing them a sense of personal time that truly enables them the option of feeling comfortable in their own space. This can make all the difference between a child who is regularly irritable or anxious with outside events to a child who is able to digest the oncoming stresses of life in a multitude of healthier ways.

It Wards Off Illness
Children are susceptible to illnesses, and as their immune system develops you can be sure they’ll experience many of these. Making this worse by a lack of sleep can truly prevent them from getting better at all. It can mean certain illnesses last longer or repeat after they have been shaken off. A great night’s sleep gives your child, and by extension you less chance of getting ill, even when surrounded by many children at school who carry bugs and other transferable nastiness.

With these tips, you can be sure that sleep will be reprioritized in your household.

Sunpiology Resolution Run Raises Over 5 Million for Charity

SunPiology Resolution Run

Sun Life Financial Philippines opened the year by rallying Filipinos towards health and wellness while raising over Php 5 Million for charity in its annual fun run, the Sunpiology Resolution Run.

Held last January 20 at Camp Aguinaldo in Quezon City, the event attracted over 3,000 runners, who tackled obstacles designed to raise awareness about diabetes. A limbo rock challenge reminded everyone to keep their health in check, a 100-step challenge gave reminders on how to infuse exercise in one’s daily routine, while a sugar tunnel prompted everyone to watch their sugar intake.

Sun Life has been championing diabetes awareness since 2015, after studies that it commissioned showed that many Filipinos lacked knowledge about the debilitating disease. In fact, part of the funds raised will go to the Institute for Studies on Diabetes Foundation (ISDFI), which facilitates diabetes awareness and prevention initiatives for Filipinos.

Other beneficiaries are Noordhoff Craniofacial Foundation, Hebreo Foundation, and the Star Magic scholars.

Now on its 9th year, the run was once again co-presented by Star Magic and led by actor and Sun Life brand ambassador Piolo Pascual. His fellow artists, such as Matteo Guidicelli, Enchong Dee, Robi Domingo, Kisses Delavin, Edward Barber, and Maymay Entrata also joined the event. Other artists were Ashley Colet, Bailey May, Belle Mariano, Chantal Videla, Christian Morones, Claire Ruiz, Franco Rodriguez, Hannah Ledesma, Hannah Lopez Vito, Henz Villaraiz, Jai Agpangan, Jameson Blake, Jessica Marasigan, Joe Vargas, Joj Agpangan, Kyle Velino, Lance Lucido, Loren Burgos, Marco Gallo, Maris Racal, Mark Rivera, Mikee Agustin, Nico Antonio, Nikki Valdez, Inigo Pascual, Pamu Pamorada, Raine Salamante, Ria Atayde, Sam Shoaf, Sam Thurman, Tommy Esguerra, Vivoree Esclito, Xia Vigor,Yesha Camile, Ysabel Ortega, Zeus Collins and Zonia Mejia.

A big garden requires big tools; those that are capable of getting big tasks done in quick time. Not only should you consider investing in a top-quality lawn mower, but it is a good idea to look for a pull behind fertilizer spreader as well.
