Nestogrow Grow Happy Nation Visits Cebu

Nestogrow Grow Nation Lab - SM City Cebu Event Center - Mommy After Work

Sometime last September, I was one of the mommies invited by Mommy Hannah from Iway DIaries for a chance to experience Grow Happy Nation by Nestogrow as it visits Cebu for 2 days.

Nestle Philippines’ PR came all the way from Manila to be with Cebu mommies and for an intimiate discussion on what’s new with Nestogrow milk after the rebranding as well as on why Grow Happy is Nestogrow’s jingle.

Nestogrow Grow Nation Lab - SM City Cebu - Mommy After Work Grow Happy Tips

Nestogrow Rebranding
The Nestogrow box is modified into shiny metallic green color with a big smile that depicts happiness. Not only did Nestogrow improved the packaging but they also improved the milk contents. Nestogrow now contains L.comfortis®, a probiotic that helps in the proper absorption of nutrients and LIPO ACTIV, which contributes to better calcium absorption making one’s kid happy tummy.

Grow Happy
The new jingle of Nestogrow Milk starts by telling mommies that happiness starts with a happy tummy. Here in this side of the world, school starts as early as 7 o’clock in the morning. That is too early. If I had a hard time forcing myself to wake early to prepare for breakfast and baons, then how much more for the kids. Prepping for school is difficult especially during breakfast, that is why we rely on milks help 🙂 Thankfully there is Nestogrow which gives additional nutrients at a very affordable price.

Grow Happy Nation PlayLab
The Grow Happy Nation PlayLab interactive play that helps mommies (and daddies) and kiddos understand the benefits Nestogrow has to offer. The Lab was available for Cebu parents for 2 days.
The Grow Happy Nation PlayLab contains stations that:
– highlights Nestogrow having no sucrose added (no sugar added)
– tells mommy not to worry of the price since kids get to enjoy the health benefits from the milk while moms get the enjoy the savings when choosing Nestogrow.
– where mommies get to play hopscotch where each square block contains the vitamins and nutrients Nestogrow has to offer.
– Grow Happy Play Lab station wherein kiddos had a chance to wear the scientist’s lab gown 🙂

Licealiz now on its 3rd year for Kilusang Kontra Kuto Campaign

Head lice infestation continues to be a public concern in the Philippines especially on primary schools. According to a study conducted by the Department of Edcucation (DepEd) and the University of the Philippines (UP), head lice infestation is considered as the second most common health problem in schools here in the Philippines next to tooth decay. While it it may not be a fatal condition, attention must still be given to this persistent condition because if left untreated, more problems may arise.

It can cause other serious infections
The surface of our skin is filled with different kinds of bacteria. According to Dr. Arlene Bertuso from University of the Philippines – Manila, College of Public Health, while lice itself can’t cause infections, “severe scratching caused but allergic reactions to the saliva can cause scalp to break, therefore increasing the chance of secondary bacterial infection”.

It can decrease self-confidence to both the child and parents
Head lice or kuto often has negative connotation due to its association with poor hygiene and low social status, which can cause a child to lose confidence around his/her peers especially when teased. Parents whose child has been infected with head lice feel embarrassed since they feel like they exhibited poor parenting by letting their child get infested by head lice.

It decreases academic or work productivity
Itchiness and inflammation are effects from the bites of head lice. The irritation caused by the bites of the head lice can disrupt concentration in school or at work, hence affecting productivity. It can also cause loss of sleep, which can then lead to irritability, short attention span and lack of focus.

Misinformation can cause more damage
Myths and superstitions are already ingrained in Filipino culture and society. Kuto is surrounded by several of these myths and misconceptions that can be harmful to the infested such as the use of mayonnaise or kerosene and wrapping the child’s head with plastic overnight. Incorrect information like these can lead to untreated head lice, which can spread quickly to the whole family or to the whole class simply through physical contact with one infested person.

Making Clothes Lasts Longer with Style: Electrolux Fashion Care

Classic Style? I honestly don’t have any idea on what does it mean. However, a college instructor’s rationale about clothing style influenced me since then. He said “Basta dili lang ka bastos tanawon, okey na imo gisuot!” (“As long as you don’t improperly dressed, then you’re presentably good!”)

Growing up with hand-me-down clothes, my college instructor’s slogan was a motivation. Regardless of style, as long as it fits, it’s a thumb up sign for me and surely keeping it until it is no longer wearable.

MommyAfterWork Electrolux Fashion Care 1

I grew up wearing school uniforms and jeans + shirts style. Since I sucked at dressing up, I am thankful for school uniforms. On wash days, I got one style and that is jeans + shirt. Thankfully, the style then was over-sized shirts and baggy pants. It will always fit on me since I didn’t gain much weight. Then, working on a manufacturing company does not have an opportunity to get stylish either. I only know one style then –>  cleanroom suits 🙂 My current company though has a dress code but allows jeans & shirts to work.  Needless to say, I’m senseless when it comes to fashion.

MommyAfterWork Electrolux Fashion Care 2

Lately though, I am thankful for special occasions. Occasions like weddings, birthday and year-end parties gives me an opportunity to try different dressing styles. I realized that it is fun (especially when you do it with your siblings). It makes me pretty sometimes with the thought that its not ordinary. But since I seldom dress up, I have to make sure my clothes are kept to last longer so its still presentable and looks new for my next use.

Here are my “To Dos” to make sure my clothes has the #TimelessStyle:
Choose clothes of good quality
Yep, let’s not talk about the brand. There are clothes that are soft yet strong enough not to easily tear down.

Choose comfortable clothes
Confidence comes from being comfortable. Jean and shirts, as long as its clean and makes you comfortable, then go. One time, I wore an itchy polo for my report presentation that I wish I’d wear I’d rather present a demo wearing these rather in a slacks and itchy polo.

Choose proper care
For my favorite and soft clothes, I prefer hand-washing since I can control my hands to be gentle with the fabric. But as much as I want all the clothes to be handwash, with no househelp, I can’t manage. Handwashing the intimates already eats up my Saturday morning so I have my eye on one of the Electrolux Washing Machine hoping it will make my weekends more fun rather than consuming more time in the laundry area. Electrolux Washing Machine is not only about washing clothes to get it clean but they have the technology to take care the clothes with proper care. Check out their site for Electrolux Washing Machine Promo Deals.

Because your clothes are properly taken cared off by #ElectroluxFashionCare, you are given an assurance that it will last longer — giving you confidence no matter how many times you re-use it and it means cost saving as it refrains you from buying another set of clothes.

MommyAfterWork Electrolux Fashion Care 5

With this Electrolux Washing Machines, someday, laundry time would be fun and fast since Electrolux Washing Machines with its performance, will give guarantee that our clothes are gently care with less laundry time.

Pamper’s introduces its new Less Lawlaw Diapers

Pampers Goes to Cebu_1

Pampers Philippines went to Cebu to personally introduce their new Pampers Less Lawlaw Diapers. I was one of the lucky mama who was able to witness the small gathering of mothers (and fathers :)) and babies held at Gymboree, Banilad Cebu City.
Pampers Goes to Cebu_2Seeing these smiling, adorable babies in their tutus, bows, ribbons made me miss my kids in their toddler years and wished they are part in this fun-filled activity. Pampers Philippines gave the babies a chance to explore Gymboree’s amenities and bet they are had so much fun as they also learn the new Pampers Go Galaw Jingle. The babies swayed joyfully to the upbeat music even parents can’t help but dance too.
Pampers Goes to Cebu_3The babies can move freely with no difficulty while wearing the new Pampers that fit snugly plus, this new diaper did not seem to bother the babies nor hinder their movement.
Pampers Goes to Cebu_4According to a 2012 study from US National Institute of Health, the bulk caused by saggy or lawlaw diaper may hamper the baby’s ability to walk properly. Not too many parents realize this, we too were not concern then.  When choosing the diaper, we only consider the diaper’s price then. The old Pampers suit our budget even it manifest its saggy-ness especially after longer use. Thankfully, Pampers found a solution through Pampers Baby Dry with its well-loved magic gel channels to absorb wetness evenly and distribute it throughout the whole diaper allowing babies to move freely.

Pampers Goes to Cebu_5

According to Adie Villegas, Pampers Communications Manager, “Pampers put baby’s development at the core of our innovations. We want them to be comfortable an to move undisturbed from saggy, lawlaw diaper and with Pampers Baby Dry more and more moms #ChoosePampers for their babies to have the most fun #PampersGoGalaw days.”

Pampers Baby Dry, is available in major supermarket, groceries, and drug stores nationwide, as well as online on Lazada Ph.

2018 Bohol Weekend Trip

Bohol2018_WeekendTrip

The husband surely knows how to treat the family as everyone is having a blast from the quick weekend trip at Bohol. It was a long overdue getaway and everyone was so glad we made it last month. Additionally, it was an opportunity for the youngest to have a closer view of the tourist spots and shrine he read from his school books like the Chocolate Hills and the Blood Compact shrine.

How to get there:
Ferry Fare Cost = P500/pax for adult and P400/head for kids 11yo and below

Ferries from Cebu to Bohol are available. FastCat Ferries has trips to Tubigon port then, there’s Ocean Jet Ferries that has 9 trips to Tagbilaran port. For Ocean Jet Ferries, the earliest trip from Cebu is 6:00AM while last trip departs at 4:30PM. We took the earliest trip. Be sure to be at the port 30 minutes before your departure time since Cebu’s Passenger Terminal at Pier 3 is too crowded that it may queuing for bag inspection and check-in consumes much time.

Transporation:
Countryside Tour Package (with Vehicle) = P1800

You’ll be greeted with different tour packages from different travel agencies including transportation upon arrival at Tagbilaran port. Tour package’s costs ranges from P2500 to P3000. However, there are some drivers though not affiliated with  the agency that offers the same package tours at a lesser price. These are locals with personal vehicles that consider Bohol tourism as a livelihood. This is a bit risky though not connected by agencies but recognized by LGU. We took the risk and paid cheaper for a countryside tour.

Chocolate Hills, Carmen Bohol
Entrance Fee = P50

Bohol2018_WeekendTrip-ChocolateHills

The first spot we visited was the famous chocolate hills. Located at the center of the island are at least a thousand hills of almost symmetrical and conical in shape. These hills are covered in green grass during rainy season but turns brown (grasses dried up) on summer / dry seasons.
We went to the observation deck located in Carmen. Changes is noticeable from the last time we visited. This time, with everything cemented and less trees and plants at the deck, its too hot and humid.Good thing we consider this as first to visit in our itinerary.Bohol2018_WeekendTrip-ChocolateHills2

ATV and Buggy Cars
Rentals = P450 for 30mins on ATV (30 mins) and P900 for 30mins on Buggy Cars
Entrance Fee = P50

Bohol2018_WeekendTrip-ATVandBuggyCars

Get up close with the hills while driving through rough roads using Graham’s ATV and Buggy cars. We rented 1 ATV and 1 Buggy car for 30 minutes. We let the kids take the wheels provided we, as parents, accompany them. And yes, they love the excitement. My daughter who had tummy pains that day said that she forgot about pain during her ride because of the fun and thrill.

Tarsier Conservation Area
Entrance Fee = P60 for Adults / P40 for Students

Bohol2018_WeekendTrip-Tarsier
Next stop is the Tarsier Conservation Area. Tarsiers are the smallest primate. When we get there, almost everyone is sleeping (they are nocturnal and shy animals and does not like noise). The Science handbooks of my kids listed Tarsier as one of the endangered animals, yet ironically caged in a supposedly protected area for display and attract tourists. Don’t get me wrong, I want to check and observe them too, I find their huge eyes and tiny hands, feet clutching the branch a little cute.

My last encounter with them includes holding them. For this recent visit, touching these Tarsiers is already prohibited and you can view them at a distance. At least there’s an improvement in their system regarding proper care for these animals.

Bilar Man Made Forest
Free

Bohol2018_WeekendTrip-BilarManMadeForest
We knew we’re in the forest as soon as the air becomes cooler, however, its comforting silence is rather odd. It is a forest of mahogany trees. Jeane of Viajera Cebuana told me that Bilar Man Made Forest  is a dead forest since the trees are non-endemic, therefore, native birds won’t be able to find comfort there. Well, we can at least enjoy its cool surrounding though 🙂

Loboc River Cruise with Buffet Lunch
Buffet Lunch + River Cruise = P550/pax

Loboc is famous of floating restaurant cruising along the river. The queue is very long so prepare your patience while waiting. Don’t easily give up coz I’m sure you’ll gonna love it. Who can’t resist good food, the cruise, the music and the scenery.
Bohol2018_WeekendTrip-LobocRiverCruiseBohol2018_WeekendTrip-LobocRiverCruise2
Baclayon Church
Entrance Fee = Free for the Church; P50 for the Museum

We went for a short stop but was not able to get inside and take photos because the church was closed. We didn’t get inside to the museum too.

Blood Compact Shrine
Free

We stopped at Blood Compact Shrine monument for a my son’s photo op 🙂 Believed to be the place where the friendship between Filipinos and Spaniards started. As reported that during the treaty, “each of the two leaders made a small cut in his arm, drew a few drops of blood from the incision, mixed it with wine, and drank the goblet containing the blood of the other”. (source: Wikipedia). The statue is Miguel López de Legazpi and Datu Sikatuna having a toss.

BE Grand Hotel
Overnight Stay = P6k for 2 Adults + 2 Kids (Promo Rate)

Bohol2018_WeekendTrip-BeGrandHotel

Capping the countryside tour with an overnight stay at one of the nice hotels in Panglao, Bohol – Be Grand Hotel. Staffs are helpful. Our room is cozy and spacious. Clean. The pool is huge. No shoreline but was able to enjoy swimming near their docking area. We did kayaking within the area too. Nice stay that it deserves a separate post soon 🙂
Bohol2018_WeekendTrip-BeGrandHotel2

That concludes our Bohol weekend trip. We went home the following day taking Ocean Jet’s 4:20PM voyage from Tagbilaran Port to Cebu Port.

Thinking of going back here…soon…for now, will prepare like the ant 🙂

The Benefits of Cosleeping

MommyAfterWork-CoSleep-Mono

Co-sleeping is when babies and young children sleep at proximity with their parents.

It could be that kids and parents share the same bed or multiple beds in a room or some families uses crib that is securely attached next to the parent’s bed so mommies have easy access when nursing the baby. While the co-sleeping debate goes on, it is surprising to know that a lot of parents around the world choose this set-up. Like us, we co-sleep with our kiddos because of the following benefits:

Promotes Closeness
For weekdays, my husband and I are almost 9 hours away from our kids because of work. Thus, we only have a few hours to connect with them — asking how their day was, sharing breakfast or dinner, school reinforcement, story telling, bedtime bonding and sleeping together.
I’d rather hear the noise of my kid’s breathing as they sleep or my husband’s snore than the deafening silence at night. Somehow sleeping together promotes closeness and attachment with each other.

Longer Sleep
Kids are a bit sensitive, when my kids wake-up and noticed that they are alone in the room, they rather look for us than return to sleep. But when they still notice parent’s presence, they sleep longer. Parent’s presence is surely and comfortably soothing.

Sense of Security
I don’t know with you but cuddles and kisses during bedtime is like security blankets, these bonding and closeness develop the feel of being safe, secure and of course loved.

Saves Electricity
At 31ºC and 70% humidity, no one wants to spend in this sweltering weather. Perks of living in a tropical country is having a warm weather all year round as well sweat and perspiring body everyday. No wonder people loves to stay in malls. Some families would invest in air-conditioning system for a cool good sleep at night. Rather than using all air-conditioning, we gather ourselves together in one room 🙂

With proper bed sharing guidelines, co-sleeping is not that bad after all 🙂
