Sunpiology Resolution Run Raises Over 5 Million for Charity

SunPiology Resolution Run

Sun Life Financial Philippines opened the year by rallying Filipinos towards health and wellness while raising over Php 5 Million for charity in its annual fun run, the Sunpiology Resolution Run.

Held last January 20 at Camp Aguinaldo in Quezon City, the event attracted over 3,000 runners, who tackled obstacles designed to raise awareness about diabetes. A limbo rock challenge reminded everyone to keep their health in check, a 100-step challenge gave reminders on how to infuse exercise in one’s daily routine, while a sugar tunnel prompted everyone to watch their sugar intake.

Sun Life has been championing diabetes awareness since 2015, after studies that it commissioned showed that many Filipinos lacked knowledge about the debilitating disease. In fact, part of the funds raised will go to the Institute for Studies on Diabetes Foundation (ISDFI), which facilitates diabetes awareness and prevention initiatives for Filipinos.

Other beneficiaries are Noordhoff Craniofacial Foundation, Hebreo Foundation, and the Star Magic scholars.

Now on its 9th year, the run was once again co-presented by Star Magic and led by actor and Sun Life brand ambassador Piolo Pascual. His fellow artists, such as Matteo Guidicelli, Enchong Dee, Robi Domingo, Kisses Delavin, Edward Barber, and Maymay Entrata also joined the event. Other artists were Ashley Colet, Bailey May, Belle Mariano, Chantal Videla, Christian Morones, Claire Ruiz, Franco Rodriguez, Hannah Ledesma, Hannah Lopez Vito, Henz Villaraiz, Jai Agpangan, Jameson Blake, Jessica Marasigan, Joe Vargas, Joj Agpangan, Kyle Velino, Lance Lucido, Loren Burgos, Marco Gallo, Maris Racal, Mark Rivera, Mikee Agustin, Nico Antonio, Nikki Valdez, Inigo Pascual, Pamu Pamorada, Raine Salamante, Ria Atayde, Sam Shoaf, Sam Thurman, Tommy Esguerra, Vivoree Esclito, Xia Vigor,Yesha Camile, Ysabel Ortega, Zeus Collins and Zonia Mejia.

The Resolution Run was presented by Sun Life Financial Philippines in partnership with Brooks, Cherifer, Diabetasol, DMC Marketing Services, Dr. Kong, Fitbar, Gardenia, Green Stevia, Hi-Precision Diagnostics, Mega Sardines, RUNNR, Saucony, Stable, Sun Life Grepa Financial, Inc., and TrueTea; supported by Glorious Blend, Nurture Wellness Village, PhilRice, and Silka; with media partners Business Mirror, Business World, Cinema One, Lifestyle, OUTCOMM, Philippine Daily Inquirer, Philippine Star, and Star Studio. Gatorade (official hydration partner), (My Health Clinic (official medical partner), Garmin (official timer); and Toby’s (official registration partner) also helped mount the event facilitated by RunRio.

5 Ways Induction Cooktops can make Holiday Cooking Easier

Electrolux Induction CookTop

The Christmas season is upon us and that means lots of delicious holiday meals with friends and family! The chance to get-together with our loved ones. The chance to cook family’s favorite and traditional meals. The chance to sit and relax and feel the holiday spirit. But while its fun, it can also be chaotic with all the planning, shopping, preparing and cooking multiple dishes, entertaining, cleaning up afterward.

So, how to survive this busy season of feasts and parties?
Good news! This post talks about how an induction cooktop in a way can actually bring back the merriment in holiday cooking. Here are several ways induction cooking can make preparing holiday meals stress-free:

1. Induction cooking is faster.

Electrolux Induction CookTop - power speed

Holiday parties are always bountiful feasts and when you have to cook a lot of dishes, each with different steps, speed is of the essence unless you want to spend the whole day in the kitchen.

Induction cooking is faster than gas. Utilizing the induction technology, the Electrolux Induction Hob can boil 1 liter of water in just 3 minutes as the heat is directed to the whole bottom surface of the cookware. It’s perfect for that quick boil, blanching or sautéing.

2. Induction cooktops are safer.

Electrolux Induction CookTop - safety cool touch

Many hands make light work, right? It’s actually easier to involve your kids in cooking holiday meals when you use an induction cooktop. By ditching the flames, you don’t have to fret over accidental burns.

The beauty of the induction cooker is the heat is limited to the area where your pots or pans are, leaving the surrounding area safe to touch.

It’s also easy to check if your cookware is induction-friendly. If one of those quirky ref magnets you have sticks to your pan, that means it’s induction-compatible.

3. Induction cooktops are energy efficient.

Electrolux Induction CookTop - precise temperature control_a

The holidays have a knack of burning a hole through your pocket but by using an induction hob with 90% energy efficiency, you can cook all your holiday feasts without the worry of buying multiple gas tanks or hike up your electric bill.

None of the heat is wasted flowing up from the burner around the outside of the cookware and since the heat is localized to the bottom of your pots and pans, you can heat up things faster using less energy.

It also has precise temperature control, as it allows you to go from high to low heat instantly – perfect for melting chocolate for a delectable ganache, steaming leche flan and even deep-frying crispy pata.

4. Induction cooktops keep your kitchen cool.

Every family has that designated holiday chef. Whether it’s mom, dad, tita, kuya, ate or you, it’s now possible to go from your kitchen straight to your party.

With the Electrolux induction hob, you can cook without heating the surrounding surface area so, you don’t have to worry about sweating like you’re in a sauna before celebrating the holidays with your loved ones.

5. Induction cooktops are easy to clean.

Electrolux Induction CookTop - easy to clean

With drinks, food, good conversation and festivities during the holidays, the last thing you want to worry about is cleaning up a grimy cooking station.

The Electrolux induction hob’s glass ceramic surface makes it easier for you to just wipe off those spills as you cook and seamlessly get rid of grease with minimal effort.

Conquer your holiday feasts easily with the Electrolux Induction Hob (EHED63CS), you can prepare scrumptious holiday meals without the sweat (literally!).

On Clothes and Confidence: Electrolux Fashion Care

We grew up having limited clothes. It’s the least concern my mother would consider. Shopping for clothes is not a priority for my parents who have six kids to feed and send to school. So when a situation calls for new clothes or dress like school activity, birthdays or Christmas seasons, going to a department store was a bliss. I remember I made my parents bleed just so they can buy me a CAT uniform for a school activity (good thing that we had a neighbor’s daughter who just graduated on that same school and she sold or gave (I don’t remember) her uniform to me). Hand-me-down clothes from cousins was a treasure worth to keep. I remember receiving them during Christmas and would value them so they’ll last long. The husband also values clothes too. He grow using hand-me-down clothes and realized the need to buy clothes only when it calls for it like if it no longer fits or if its already torn and that torn can no longer be fixed from sewing it.

Electrolux Fashion Care Hannah

Electrolux Fashion Care Jigs

With this experience, we seldom shop clothes for kids too hoping they’ll value their clothes even if it is limited. But that doesn’t mean their dressing looks are limited, in fact they have the confidence to show and here are the reasons why:

1. Get their approval
– Of course! Buying kid’s clothes needs kid’s opinion. But that doesn’t mean they get what they want too. Factors are considered – is the price within the budget? is it durable? will it last longer? is it useful?

2. Designs and Colors matter
– Kids love to wear clothes of their favorite superhero or colors. They have the confidence to flaunt what they wore.

3. Comfortable to wear
– Kids love to explore here and there so they need clothing that gives them limitless activities.

4. Proper Care
– I prefer to hand wash our favorite selected clothes. For us, hand-washing is gentle and thorough. But being a working mom, its hard to consume more time washing clothes considering there are other chores that needs to tend aside from laundry. We don’t have a househelp thus we spend our Saturdays doing the laundry. I don’t want to spend my weekend doing the washing but I don’t want to ruin our limited clothes either. That’s why I had my eye on Electrolux Washing Machines because they have a unique way of caring our favorite clothes, they do Electrolux Fashion Care.

As what Rajo Laurel said, “Electrolux UltimateCare Washing Machine takes care of the clothes’ color and fabric. Laundry is not just about washing the clothes to get it clean but also taking care of the clothes to last longer.” This very much suits our family well since we seldom buy clothes, instead want to enjoy the clothes on an extended time until it no longer fits :D. Would it amazing if these clothes will still look as good as new when handed down to next younger generation.

“From everyday items to delicate designer pieces, clothes will retain their softness, shape and colour with new UltraMix™ technology.  Also, Electrolux UltraMix™ Technology delivers an exceptional deep clean even at 30°C, keeping your clothes vibrant and newer for longer.

Plus, Electrolux has Load Sensor™ technology hat automatically senses load weight, determines optimal washing time, water and detergent while guaranteeing maximum energy efficiency.” Sounds good isn’t it 🙂

Having the Electrolux Washing Machines gives me an assurance that clothes are gently care and I’m sure it will help me save my laundry time thus, more time with family. Someday 🙂

Note: This post is my entry for the  Electrolux Fashion Care Blog Writing Contest. #ElectroluxFashionCare

Licealiz Campaigns Kilusang Kontra Kuto

Licealiz Campaign Kilusang Kontra Kuto Banner

I admit me and my sisters had kutos (headlice) during my childhood days. My mama would not let us play outside if she can’t comb out those lice and nits (eggs). Imagine getting those nits from your hair strand, she would get it! She would diligently look for those lice and prick it on my head with such force it makes you whimper. She’ll do this laborious task to us girls (no wonder her eyes got marred). Music to my ears if I hear her calling my sister’s name — that means its not my kutuhan session for the day. When my mama is not available and if in the mood, we also have those kutuhan session between sisters that we sometimes end up challenging each other on whose got the most lice or nits.

Now its my turn to check my daughter’s hair. Yes, she has kuto even if she washes her hair everyday. Like my mom, I apply the traditional method of removing the lice –> nitpicking or manually removing the lice and nit and using special comb for the lice. I can only check her hair on weekends and with interaction of her classmates on schooldays and with my conventional method, there’s definitely no guarantee that her lice are totally eliminated.

Nowadays, there are prescriptions that can help get rid of lice but because I’m afraid of the chemicals used that may possibly affect the children, I hesitated. Thankfully, Lamoiyan Corporation is here for Licealiz campaign for Nationwide Oplan Alis Kuto as part of Kilusang Kontra Kuto advocacy in the effort to educate the public on lice infestation issues. Lamoiyan Corporation has Licealiz Head Lice Treatment Shampoo that is non-toxic and convince me to use Licealiz. Together with Department of Education and Philippine Dermatological Society, Lamoiyan Corporation travels to different schools and barangays all over the country to hold shampooing programs and lectures for students and their parents.

Licealiz Campaign Kilusang Kontra Kuto Shampoo

As what  Lamoiyan Corporation Marketing Director Bing Cavestany said, “We want to remove the stigma associated with having kuto by educating communities on lice infestation issues. We want to drive home the message that everyone can be potentially infested by kuto, that it’s not something to be ashamed about, and definitely not something to ridicule others for. We also hope to encourage these communities to unite and take action to solve this public health problem together.

Mommy Bloggers Philippines Cebu Mommies was invited to witness the Visayas kickoff last Friday, September 27, 2017 at Guadalupe Elementary School (which was interrupted by the sudden flooding  from heavy downpour). They will visit more schools around Cebu province and will be in Mindanao in the upcoming days with the hope for a headlice-free country in the future.

A discussion about headlice infestation, treatment and prevention was made at Zubuchon Restaurant at Escario St., Cebu City by Philippine Dermatological Society Rep, Lamoiyan Corporation Reps, ComCo Southeast Team and Licealiz Team.

Licealiz Campaign Kilusang Kontra Kuto Team

Important Facts of Head Lice:

  • Anyone can be infested.
  • Lice feed on human blood.
  • Lice stuck in comb can survived for three days.
  • Female head lice can lay as much as 100 eggs. Imagine the spread.
  • Head lice has six legs. They can crawl fast but cannot jump nor fly.
  • Avoid sharing personal hair accessories, comb, hairbrush, pillows, towels or caps to avoid being infected.

Licealiz invites everyone to join the Kilusang Kontra Kuto in changing the public’ perception about head lice infestation and spreading correct information regarding head lice prevention and treatment.

#GRABMISISKOLAR IN CEBU

Last 2016, Grab launched Grab Wives Academy and reached 100 Grab drivers’ wives.
This year, Grab aims to reach and empower 600 to 1000 drivers’ wives and inspire thousands more. An awesome advocacy of Grab for making the Filipino wives – WAIS SA PAMILYA, WAIS SA PERA!

Yes, Grab not only help the drivers but also the drivers’ wives by giving entrepreneurial and livelihood programs that encourage the wives to earn and support the husbands financially.

Based on survey, nine out of every ten housewives are ill-equipped with managing the money remitted by their husbands, the Grab drivers. If the wives are not given the necessary skills and opportunities to manage or grow their husband’s income, the endless cycle of poor money management within the Filipino family will continue.

grab misiskolarPhoto Credits

In recognition of the importance of the role of wives in achieving success for the community, GRAB Misiskolar was born. GRAB Misiskolar is an initiative with the goal of empowering and educating the drivers’ wives to be wiser about handling their husband’s hard-earned income and enabling them to start their own business. Last August 27, 2017 at SM City Cebu Trade Hall, Misiskolars within Cebu became part of a full-day entrepreneurial program which included family planning and finance management talks as well as different livelihood workshops such as no-bake cake making, perfume-making, direct selling, starting up your own business, and getting the needed start-up capital.

Grab’s campaign is supported by the following partners – Unionbank, Lendr, Avon, Sunlife, Angat Pilipinas, and Generika Drugstore. Also, with the help of digital partners and mommy bloggers, the program aims to reach out to more wives and inspire them to be more madiskarte about the family finances – so they can become wais sa pamilya and wais sa pera.

Witness the journey of the GRAB Misiskolars from misis to wais na misis through their Facebook page, GRAB Misiskolar. Share your thoughts, spread the word and join us in empowering more Filipino families – one #GRABMisiskolar at a time.
