We grew up having limited clothes. It’s the least concern my mother would consider. Shopping for clothes is not a priority for my parents who have six kids to feed and send to school. So when a situation calls for new clothes or dress like school activity, birthdays or Christmas seasons, going to a department store was a bliss. I remember I made my parents bleed just so they can buy me a CAT uniform for a school activity (good thing that we had a neighbor’s daughter who just graduated on that same school and she sold or gave (I don’t remember) her uniform to me). Hand-me-down clothes from cousins was a treasure worth to keep. I remember receiving them during Christmas and would value them so they’ll last long. The husband also values clothes too. He grow using hand-me-down clothes and realized the need to buy clothes only when it calls for it like if it no longer fits or if its already torn and that torn can no longer be fixed from sewing it.

With this experience, we seldom shop clothes for kids too hoping they’ll value their clothes even if it is limited. But that doesn’t mean their dressing looks are limited, in fact they have the confidence to show and here are the reasons why:

1. Get their approval

I admit me and my sisters had kutos (headlice) during my childhood days. My mama would not let us play outside if she can’t comb out those lice and nits (eggs). Imagine getting those nits from your hair strand, she would get it! She would diligently look for those lice and prick it on my head with such force it makes you whimper. She’ll do this laborious task to us girls (no wonder her eyes got marred). Music to my ears if I hear her calling my sister’s name — that means its not my kutuhan session for the day. When my mama is not available and if in the mood, we also have those kutuhan session between sisters that we sometimes end up challenging each other on whose got the most lice or nits.

Now its my turn to check my daughter’s hair. Yes, she has kuto even if she washes her hair everyday. Like my mom, I apply the traditional method of removing the lice –> nitpicking or manually removing the lice and nit and using special comb for the lice. I can only check her hair on weekends and with interaction of her classmates on schooldays and with my conventional method, there’s definitely no guarantee that her lice are totally eliminated.

Wood Floors
Swapping your carpet for wood floors will allow you to avoid as much dust in the home. Dust mites have a habit of burying deep into carpets, so no matter how often you vacuum, you may not be able to get rid of them. Having a wood floor, whether it’s laminate or solid wood, will allow you to vacuum up dust easily. It’s also the perfect flooring for cleaning up after messy children and spilled drinks.

Nowadays you can change your address with most providers and companies online. Work down your list and look on their websites. In many cases, you can do this as soon as you’ve got a moving date which saves a lot of hassle later on.

Labeling your boxes might not seem like a big deal, but it will make your life much easier once you’ve moved. When you finally get to your new home, after days or even weeks of packing and moving, you will want to relax and enjoy it without hunting through boxes every time you need something.

Prepare Supplies

Move a box of moving day supplies to your new home before moving day if you can. Or at least keep this box separate and easy to locate. Include things like the cups and drinks, a few snacks, pajamas for that first night, essential toiletries and clothes for the next day. That way if you’ve got snacks for during the move and you can leave the bulk of unpacking for another day.

Keep Essentials Separate

Keep passports, medication, driver’s licenses, contracts, contact information, phone chargers and anything else you may need in an emergency separate. Carry these in your handbag, or a separate bag and keep them with you until you arrive at your new home. Then, keep them away from all of the other boxes, so they don’t get lost in the mess.

Get a Babysitter

If at all possible, arrange childcare for moving day. It’s a good idea for the kids to spend some time in the new house and exploring the new area before you move, to help them adapt. But, on the day itself, you won’t want them getting in the way, and it can be confusing and even dangerous for them to be around.
