Create a Healthy Home with Electrolux

As the old saying goes, “health is wealth” and as the rainy season begins, moms needs to take even more care to ensure that their homes are healthy havens for their family. That is why leading home appliance brand Electrolux shared tips on how mothers can make their homes an #ElectroluxHealthyHome at the recently held Create a Healthy Home event at Circa 1900 in Cebu City.

#ElectroluxHealthyHome 1

Electrolux Healthy Home event host Jude Bacalso with Founder of Mommy Mundo Janice Villanueva and MagTV hosts Reena Tan and Blinky De Leon, accompanied by her mother Angie exchange tips and home hacks to create an #ElectroluxHealthyHome.

Celebrity guests Reena Malinao-Tan and Blinky de Leon and her mom, Angeles de Leon-Cornejo, shared some of their tips for moms on how to create homes that promote wellness.

“Wellness for me is about attaining balance in everything: work and life, food, daily activities, relationships. Wellness is a journey that must be enjoyed by every member of the family,” Malinao-Tan.

“First is making sure we have a clean and relaxing place to live in. With a toddler in the house, I live by the tip ‘less is more’. My husband and son have allergies, so maintaining a good quality of air, free from dust is on top of the list. I’m also an advocate of natural and mild cleaning agents,” she elaborated.”

When it comes to eating, she said, “I go by balanced eating. In our fast-paced lives, making sure we go by the food pyramid is a challenge. It really helps to have meal planning, talking to the members of the family on the meals to prepare for a certain time. That way, we prevent ourselves from resorting to instant food or fried dishes.”

Malinao-Tan also talked about the importance of quality time with the family, making sure that they shared meals together, enjoy a regular day out (from a simple playhouse date with her little one to out-of-town adventures) and even gadget-free time in a day for them to enjoy each other’s company and shares stories of the day.

Meanwhile Angeles de Leon-Cornejo talked about the importance of fitness. “I am a fitness enthusiast. I have engaged my children to do the same for I am a strong believer of how exercise benefits the human body. I encourage my hubby to play basketball with our son in our mini-basketball in our front yard on weekends. It’s also a way for them to bond. I also allow my children to do domestic chores to ready them for the future, when they have families of their own,” Angeles de Leon-Cornejo shared.

Janice Villanueva, successful mompreneur and founder of Mommy Mundo, a community dedicated to supporting, inspiring and connecting moms, defined wellness as “not just being physically healthy but also includes maintaining a healthy mind and spirit.“

At home, Villanueva stressed, it is important to provide an environment that supports these wellness goals. Her tips include choosing products that do not contain or have less toxins and chemicals. She also mentioned the importance of regular cleaning of furniture because for her, dust is an enemy of physical and emotional wellbeing, as well as decluttering her home three or four times a year.

When it comes to eating healthy, Villanueva shared that she sits down with her cook and educates her on using healthy ingredients and methods of cooking. She also talked about the importance of reading product labels “because i want to know what is going into our bodies and our plates” and trying to go organic when she can.

Along with these wellness tips, Electrolux also launched their latest appliances with features to promote better health in the home.

Getting the Kids More Active This Summer

Its summertime in the other side of the world, the sun is out and the kids have a chance to be active. But with the gadgets available nowadays, a lot of children aren’t as active as they should be. In this side of the world, school is back and kids spend much time the classroom. With a lot of school activities, they may also spend less activity after school. But did you know there are still a few ways to encourage kids to be active.

Lead them into the garden

What with all the video games, TV channels and movies that are so easily accessible in this day and age — even to our children — it’s easy to allow them to stay in the house and indulge in them. It’s easy for you to give into their demands to want to be inside. In fact, it’s easy to join them inside too. But if you want your children to be more active this summer then you need to entice them outside. And to do so, you need to make coming outside and staying fit as appealing as can be. Something that you can try in this particular venture is to set them up an area where they can physically play and express themselves in as free a way as possible. If you have the space to do so, this area should be in a separate part of the garden to the space that you generally use so that they can be as active, loud and destructive as they want. And if you have the funds to do so, you should have artificial grass, such as that offered at www.astrodeck.com.au, laid down too. This will mean that no natural grass will ever be harmed as your children run around and play on it. Thus, you can retain a garden that works for the whole family, and not just the kids. So, not only will having artificial grass laid suit your venture of getting the kids active, but also your desire to retain a garden that is free of wear and tear.

Take them cycling

Cycling is most definitely a summer sport that you should get your children involved with as much as possible over the coming months. By taking your children out on bike rides, or even signing them up to a cycling club, you can be sure that you’re doing all you can to keep them not only active, but fit too. One reason for this is that cycling improves cardiovascular fitness twofold. It improves lung capacity and increases endurance. So, get your child a bike, fit some stabilisers on it if they’re too young to ride without one, and watch them cycle their way to fitness this summer.

Keeping your kids active whilst they are still children is imperative for their growth and general wellbeing. So, don’t just treat this summer as a chance for you all to enjoy and create memories in the present. No, also use it as time to ensure that your children’s physical futures are as safe and as steady as possible.

Helpful Ways To Work From Home

pexel-deskPhoto Credit

As a working mom, I can often feel that I want to be able to spend as much time with my kids as possible. But because I’m “adulting”, I still need to work, besides I enjoy my job and that me time in the office. However, when pressured at work and when my kids ask me to stay at home instead of going to work, I sometimes wonder if only I can able to balance out my time better.

Work from home is an option right? That may sound like a distant dream, but I know a lot of moms attempted in this undertaking and are now successful. If you’d love to be able to work from home and be there for your kids, here are some ways of making it happen based from mommies who experienced it.

Go Freelance With Your Job

First up, one of the options you have would be to go freelance. Regardless of what you do for a living, whether it’s cooking, administration, or even finance, it’s likely that there’s a market out there for freelancers. So, if it sounds like a leap you could make, why not get to work with some DIY and create an office in your home? Then, you’ve got your space to get your work done while you’re kids are napping or at school.

Start Your Own Business

Also, you could think about starting your own business. If it’s always been something that you’ve wanted to do, why wait? If you have something that you’re good at or a hobby that you’d love to turn into a career, then now could be the time to go for it. Plus, with easy building options like steel from http://armstrongsteel.com/ or even wood constructions, you can create a space, especially for your business. Then, you can run your business from your property, but still, keep it self-contained.

Go Flexible

Next up, you might want to think about keeping your job but asking to change the way you work. Your company might be okay with your working in a more flexible way. Depending on what you do, you could do some of your work at home or spend full days there, or even change to flextime to fit in with your kids.

Go Into Daycare

Maybe you fancy a complete change from what you’re doing now? Well, then why not think about a job that can work with your kids, like daycare? Running a daycare at home can be easy to set up, as this http://whereimaginationgrows.com/ shows us. If you really want to be with your kids in the day and not at work, it can be a great way to earn a living and ensure you’re there for them all day.

Become A Team

If your husband has his own business, why not think about becoming a team? If he needs office support, then, you may find that you can help him out with administration or even finances and earn your own wage as an employee for him. It may not be ideal for everyone., but it could be a great way to stay at home and still work.

Yes, those moments! Because that’s how excited I am to join again this year’s ExpoMom here in Ayala Activity Center, Cebu.

Back-to-School Checklist and Jolly’s Baon Ideas

While some students were already back at school, my kids are still at the house still waiting for classes to start next month. That means they still have 2 weeks to wake up late, play, complete their assignment or just get bored. As for me, this means we still have 2 more weeks to prepare school.

This school year will be my tween’s last year in her primary years. She’ll be a high-schooler next year and that story deserves another post :). Its “Hello primary years” for my son as he will be first grader this school year and thankfully has the same schedule during his kindergarten years — morning session and will only spend 5 hours of school activities. Sure enough our early morning chaos like the constant nagging and fighting will definitely resume. Part of our morning routine to making sure they have eaten their breakfast before going to school and that they provided with snacks (baon) in case they get hungry.

Since, it is back to school time! We’ve been checking the back to school list and so far we’ve done notebook & shoe shopping, bag fixing, uniform fittings, looking for lunch boxes and water bottles that are leak-proof, checking for new baon menus and everything school stuff.

Here is our Back-To-School Checklist:

  • Books – should be covered and labeled
  • Bags – check theirs from last years
  • School Uniforms – check for lost buttons, broken zippers or torn pocket
  • Inner Wears – check if it still fits
  • Shoes and Socks – last year’s shoes might no longer fit
  • School Supplies – notebooks, pens, pencil, crayons or rulers
  • Get the kids haircuts
  • Completely accomplished summer assignments
  • Baon (Snack) Boxes / Lunch Boxes – last year might still be usable
  • Baon (Snack) / Lunch Menu – varied options to add excitement

LotusBiscoffandJollyChocolateMilk

I’m also excited with going back to school because this is again an opportunity for me to prepare their school lunches and snacks. My way of showing my care despite being busy at work. While I make sure I give them home-cooked meals for their snacks and lunches, I run out of ideas. Good thing we have biscuits and ready-to-drink drinks to give them. However, if I give them the same baon combination, expect the biscuits to be untouched sooner. They hated the same combination.

Thankfully, Jolly Eats of Fly Ace Corporation introduced me with Lotus Biscoff Biscuits and Jolly Cow Chocolate Milk Drinks. Aside from the fact the biscuit is my namesake, the kids like it so much that they already consumed it even before the start of classes. This is definitely an addition to our snack options.

5 Summer Bedroom Commandments

pixabay-bedroomPhoto Credits

Summer has an effect on every room in the house, but none more so than the bedroom. Good for other side of the world as they feel these heat during summer days. But for tropical countries, it has a big impact all year round. The higher temperatures and longer daylight hours will impact your sleep patterns and your overall comfort if you don’t do something about it. After all, summer isn’t all picnics and rainbows, especially when the mercury hits the high 80s and 90s. Thankfully, there are a few simple rules anyone can follow to ensure that summer is as comfortable as possible. And, they are all available below.

Rule #1: Let There Be Darkness

Obviously, natural light is a major part of summer and something everyone should try and incorporate as much as possible. Still, there is a time and a place for light and it isn’t at night when you’re going to sleep. Too much brightness will keep you awake during the evening and affect your sleeping patterns. And, a lack of sleep is the enemy as it affects everything from your energy levels to your mood. Just ask any new parent! By keeping the room dark during the night time, there is no need to get less than seven hours sleep. Installing thick curtains is without a doubt the easiest and most effective trick.

Rule #2: Stay Cool

There is nothing worse than going to bed and sweating under the covers. Of course, throwing the covers off and lying there naked is always an option. But, it’s quite basic and a little bit too much for those people with body issues. So, you need a way to regulate the temperature, especially during the night. Start off by changing the bed sheets and going with something thinner. Silk covers are light and don’t retain heat as well as other materials. Also, wash the sheets regularly as everything from dead skin to dog hair can make an impact.

Rule #3: But Be Prepared

Summer isn’t always red hot, and there are days when the mercury will hit rock bottom. Seriously, it’s like the winter is back with a vengeance. When these days occur, and they will, keeping cool won’t be so important. In fact, you’ll be so cold that getting warm is the main priority. The good news is that keeping warm isn’t an issue with a closet full of goodies. With thicker sheets, warmer PJs, and a nice blanket all ready to go, you won’t feel the cold any near as much.

Rule #4: Use Light Colours

Because of the season, there is no need for dark, matte colours. To be honest, they are miserable and don’t fit in with the atmosphere. What you want is a room which imbues all the great features of summer, which is why the colour scheme is so important. Light, bold hues are much more summery and will make the room more practical. Just sitting in it will boost your mood and make you fall in love with the season all over again.

Rule #5: Bring The Outside In

Finally, try and use outdoor elements to add contrast to the room. Summer bedrooms can get a bit samey as everyone follows similar rules. By being different, the sense of originality will flow throughout your boudoir. Plus, the sights and the smells will only add to the summery feel.

Tips for a Glowin’ You by Watsons PH

Watsons Philippines partnered with the best of the brands in the country to help everyone achieve a glowing and fairer complexion inside and out. No matter how much we take good care of our body and health, we can’t help but be affected from other factors like from the environment; pollution for one can cause uneven acne and dark spots and too much intake of process foods which is filled with sugar and additives can somehow have significant contribution in our health. Then there’s attitude, our mental view, on every challenges we faced. Stress contributes to a dull sagging skin.

Watsons Philippines recently held #watsonskeepitglowin event to raise awareness and remind everyone to take care of our skin.

The best tip (because I find it inexpensive for me :D) is to drink lots of water, have a good night sleep and always smile though your heart is aching. Some positive outlook 🙂

Simple Summer DIY For House Renovation

pixabay-diyPhoto Source: Pixabay

Summer is almost over in this side of the world while it just started in the other side of world. That means, there’s still plenty of time to start renovating. After all, the sun is shining (hopefully) and the sunlight lasts longer. Plus, no one wants their pad to look like it’s about to fall to the ground in the summertime. The good news is that it doesn’t have to if you know the DIY tricks of the trade. Yep, you can transform your home into something special with a little bit of knowledge. And, there’s no need to expend a boat load of energy.

Here are the DIY tasks you need to know about this summer.

A Coat Of Paint

The weather isn’t very nice to the exterior of your home. In fact, it’s downright rude the way it batters it into submission with a mixture of wind, rain, and hail. No wonder it doesn’t look it’s best! Of course, it’s an easy fix thanks to a DIYers best friend: paint. Paint is glossy and fresh, and it imbues these qualities on everything it touches. That means that a lick of the stuff can go a long way in the aesthetic stakes. Indeed, it can make your house look and feel brand new from the outside. All you have to do is pick a nice color and get to rolling. It might take a few days/weeks, but it will last until next summer.

Window Cleaning

Paint isn’t the only thing that looks dirty and grimy. Windows are also a culprit because the glass is easy to sully. All it takes is a splash of rainwater or someone’s filthy hands and the damage is done. What’s even worse is that everyone can see it as the windows are a focal point of any property. But, there’s no need to panic and call the window cleaner. Instead, just get a bucket of warm soapy water and a cleaning cloth. You might need a ladder, too, to clean the hard to reach areas, but they aren’t difficult to find. Start at the top and work your way to the bottom because the water should trickle down and help keep everything clean.

maxpixel-window-cleaningPhoto Source: MaxPixel

Outside Storage

In the autumn and winter months, it’s okay to clutter the outside of the property. For one thing, no one cares when the weather is dark and miserable. It’s not like you’re using your garden or backyard, is it? Plus, homes just never have enough storage space, and the garden is as good a place as any. When the weather changes, so should your mentality. The exterior of your property is not only a place to enjoy and relax, but it’s also a statement. As a result, the clutter needs to go as soon as possible. Start by throwing away the junk you don’t need any longer, and put everything else in the shed. If you don’t have one, move it inside where there is space. And, if that isn’t possible, make room!

Garden Makeover

Speaking of your garden, it’s time it had a makeover. The reason is simple: your garden is the first thing people see when they roll past the house. Although clearing away the clutter is a good start, it is only the beginning. To make your garden sparkle, you need a deck because it’s both beautiful and practical. Don’t worry because it isn’t as hard to build as it sounds when you have George Hill Timber on hand. Then, focus on the plants and flowers. Nothing says a summer garden more than an array of vivid colors and contrasting materials. Also, don’t forget to give the grass a trim. After all, you don’t live on the African grasslands!

wikipedia-house-repairPhoto Source: Wikipedia

Gutter Repairs

Although you hope the summer is going to be rain-free, it isn’t the case. Lots of times over June, July, and August, the rain hits hard, and the gutters need to be ready. If they aren’t, the entire house can feel the house of Mother Nature. Thankfully, looking after the guttering isn’t a difficult task. The main job is to clear it out every once in awhile so that the gunk doesn’t build and cause structural damage. Yes, that does mean you’re going to have to get your hands dirty! If it does break, you should clog the leak as soon as possible. Unless it’s necessary, don’t remove the guttering because it’s a huge job. Instead, patch it up and cover the cracks.

Sometimes, a short-term solution is just as effective as a long-term one.
