We love the relaxing smell of our bedroom. The only bedroom closest to the bathroom that has a choky smell in the mornings, yet we still choose to sleep in it. The bathroom has a design flaw with the sewer that probably caused it to smell and in some cases, this smell spreads through the room especially if the bathroom is open. Putting charcoal in the bathroom helps a bit but not totally eliminates the odor. Had consider Essential Oil Diffusers but because of limited budget, it was not realized. Humidifiers or air fresheners was never an option…until I was given the Lampe Berger Paris Coffrete Bingo gift set when I attended the Lampe Berger Paris product launching event held last August 5, 2017, at The Pyramid, IT Park, Cebu City.

115 years ago, Lampe Berger was initially designed to purify the air in the hospitals, thanks to the French pharmacist, Maurice Berger. Over the years, Lampe Berger creates a variety of elegant stylish lamps and then fragrance is incorporated to add pleasure and delight and paved way to be available to our homes.

How to use?
The Lampe Berger Paris gift comes with the lamp and the fragrance. All you have to do is fill the lamp with 2/3 of fragrance of your choice. Insert the wick and screw the lid and leave it for 20 minutes for the wick to absorb the liquid. Once the wick has absorbed the alcohol based liquid, light the ceramic top of the wick and let it burn for a 2 minutes and then blow it out. The “catalytic oxidation” process of the burner will do the magic for 4-5 hours. It comforted me to know that this process will eliminate the odor not just mask it, re-assuring that the indoor air in the room is pure and clean. Also, it is safer to use because there’s no open flame.

Lampe Berger’s fragrances are made of natural and synthetic ingredients that are stable and reliable that when blended, it creates a fragrance of great character. It is alcohol-based purifying fragrance. However, if you are sensitive to scents, they have Neutral Purifying Scent that purifies the air without releasing any scents. This Neutral Purifying Scents is also used to clean the lamp in case you want to change your fragrance.

I tried Lampe Berger Eucalyptus Purifying Scent that has an invigorating fragrance. Eucalyptus scent improves breathing and brings warmth to the heart. It makes our room smells so good 🙂

I must admit I was guilty as I went to Mom’s Day Out Event from Sun Life Financials.
As a working mom, weekends are a treat for the family right? Thus, the husband is super OC that he lectured me about taking care the family first before going out with my other engagements. It’s weekend and it’s supposed to be a family bonding day – a time to check our kid’s notebooks, books and quiz result, a time for school re-enforcement with kids, a time to clean the house, a time to empty the laundry basket or a play time with kids and the kid’s father – but then again, I chose to attend the event plus requested him to dropped me at the event’s venue. We don’t have a stay-in house helper so that means he’ll have to watch over the kids while I’ll have my Mom’s Day Out 🙂
Come on mommies! Please spare me that awful reaction because I went out from the event thankful and satisfied that I joined coz I get to hear the talk about “Balanced Motherhood” from Mommy Michelle Alignay, a Family Life Specialist and about “Saving for the Future” by Rosario Madonna Rivera.

From her talk, these are what I learned:

Balanced Motherhood

• What is Balanced Motherhood?
  Faced with changes, challenges and children, mommies must know how to balance. Changes in our body as we carry our baby from our womb, changes with our children as they grow everyday, changes in our relationship with our husband and as our partner in child-rearing or changes with career due to re-organization, whatever it is as we go with our life’s journey, there is always a change.
  And that change is definitely a challenge.
  Now I know, why we are called moms, because we are the Master of Multi-tasking. We cooked 1-3 meals in the mornings and at the same time bathe our kids and help them prepare for school. We hurry with our lunch so we still have time to buy some groceries before the start of meetings at work. As mommies doing multi-tasking, we are reminded to always keep the balance — to be aware of what is in our mind and emotions and that ensure that our body connects with it. I must admit, I do grocery shopping but my mind is at work wondering if I can deliver my tasks that day.
• Why do we need to Balance and Re-Balance?
  With so much things to do at home or at work, we sometimes forget we are no longer in balance. Sickness or body pains sends messages that tells us to pause. Being imbalance or stuck in being busy may bring harm to us, mommies. We must take action to this messages to avoid it to become knot and difficult to untangle. Pouring all your energy without taking action of the imbalances you experience will somehow bring bigger damage in the future.
• How do we keep Re-Balancing?
  Self Care is the key to re-balancing. Take time to rest and pause and choose wellness. With all these three things — Wants, Shoulds, Capacity — focus only on what you can do, unless you are Diana Prince. Sometimes, its okay to do what you want or you don’t need to do all what you ought to do. Don’t be too rigid to do all those house chores coz it can wait. Leave the mess for awhile or those laundry that needs folding? it really can wait, unless you have an OC husband, then its gonna be hard.

Michele Alignay reminded me to love myself more, to release control of things I can no longer manager, to take more time in the shower room (and never mind the knocking from your kids 🙂 and to put a little color on my face.

As the old saying goes, “health is wealth” and as the rainy season begins, moms needs to take even more care to ensure that their homes are healthy havens for their family. That is why leading home appliance brand Electrolux shared tips on how mothers can make their homes an #ElectroluxHealthyHome at the recently held Create a Healthy Home event at Circa 1900 in Cebu City.

Celebrity guests Reena Malinao-Tan and Blinky de Leon and her mom, Angeles de Leon-Cornejo, shared some of their tips for moms on how to create homes that promote wellness.

“Wellness for me is about attaining balance in everything: work and life, food, daily activities, relationships. Wellness is a journey that must be enjoyed by every member of the family,” Malinao-Tan.

“First is making sure we have a clean and relaxing place to live in. With a toddler in the house, I live by the tip ‘less is more’. My husband and son have allergies, so maintaining a good quality of air, free from dust is on top of the list. I’m also an advocate of natural and mild cleaning agents,” she elaborated.”

When it comes to eating, she said, “I go by balanced eating. In our fast-paced lives, making sure we go by the food pyramid is a challenge. It really helps to have meal planning, talking to the members of the family on the meals to prepare for a certain time. That way, we prevent ourselves from resorting to instant food or fried dishes.”

Malinao-Tan also talked about the importance of quality time with the family, making sure that they shared meals together, enjoy a regular day out (from a simple playhouse date with her little one to out-of-town adventures) and even gadget-free time in a day for them to enjoy each other’s company and shares stories of the day.

Meanwhile Angeles de Leon-Cornejo talked about the importance of fitness. “I am a fitness enthusiast. I have engaged my children to do the same for I am a strong believer of how exercise benefits the human body. I encourage my hubby to play basketball with our son in our mini-basketball in our front yard on weekends. It’s also a way for them to bond. I also allow my children to do domestic chores to ready them for the future, when they have families of their own,” Angeles de Leon-Cornejo shared.

Janice Villanueva, successful mompreneur and founder of Mommy Mundo, a community dedicated to supporting, inspiring and connecting moms, defined wellness as “not just being physically healthy but also includes maintaining a healthy mind and spirit.“

At home, Villanueva stressed, it is important to provide an environment that supports these wellness goals. Her tips include choosing products that do not contain or have less toxins and chemicals. She also mentioned the importance of regular cleaning of furniture because for her, dust is an enemy of physical and emotional wellbeing, as well as decluttering her home three or four times a year.

When it comes to eating healthy, Villanueva shared that she sits down with her cook and educates her on using healthy ingredients and methods of cooking. She also talked about the importance of reading product labels “because i want to know what is going into our bodies and our plates” and trying to go organic when she can.

Along with these wellness tips, Electrolux also launched their latest appliances with features to promote better health in the home.

I’m not familiar with wines. A sip of it is already enough for me especially if the smell is too strong or the taste is too bitter (locally described as “aplod”). And because wines easily gives my head a spinning sensation, one glass is well sufficient for me.

Then, there’s this invitation from Carlo of Kalami Cebu and Carlo of Maverick Ideas. Since the invitation is still open hours before the event, out of curiosity I impulsively asked to join the event and also requested if I can bring with me my husband (coz really need a guardian in case I can’t manage myself when I get tipsy)

Fat Bastard Wine Tasting was held at the second floor of D+B Wine Shop which is located at Crossroads Banilad, Cebu City. D+B Wine’s idea is to bring the best wines here in the Philippines for the Filipinos to be familiar with and of course enjoy a glass or two. They offer a wide variety of wines and for this night, they feature Fat Bastard Wines. The wine testing was held at the second floor of D+B Wines Shop.

I’m glad I joined as I gained new knowledge about wines.

What I learned:

• That there’s this Swirl –> Smell –> Sip steps to taste the wine:
  Swirl – Give your glass a little swirl, circles in the air, for the wine to incorporate with the oxygen. This wine and oxygen combination adds flavor to the wine.
  Smell – Stick your nose at the mouth of the glass and smell the wine. Smell the wine’s aroma to be familiar with the wine.
  Sip – Take a sip, letting the wine spread inside the mouth before swallowing.
• Wine’s descriptions are associated with femininity:
  Notice the streaks of wine that roll down the side of the glass when it is swirled, they are described as legs. Legs that are smooth or light. 🙂 Also, then wines are described as having a fruity or fresh aroma just like a scent of a woman. And then there’s smooth or round or bouquet and I don’t remember which part of wine was it described.
• Hold the glass in the stem. Holding the bowl part of the glass warms the wine.
• White wines are best paired with salads or white meat.
  Red wines are best paired with red meat and chocolate cakes.
• As wine complements the dishes, the flavor varies when you drink it before, during and after the dish is eaten. Europeans drink wine as a food since pairing wine with the food creates pleasure unlike Filipinos that drink to booze 😀

What I drinked:

For the white wines, D+B Wines Shop offered Fat Bastard’s Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay. I was able to finish a glass of Sauvignon Blanc. Not too strong to me and definitely I like the taste. I tried the second glass of  Chardonnay but was consumed only half of it. I still prefer the Sauvignon Blanc. Hhmn, the mommy in me want to indulge this wine after work. How is that?
For the red wine, Merlot and Pinot Noir was offered and it was hubby’s favorite. According to him, it taste different from wines he tasted without that sour taste. Taste just right and expensive, he said. He planned of bringing me back here in D+B Wine Shop for a date…I wonder when 🙂

Wine is indeed pleasurable and I think a glass of wine did have an effect on everyone as everyone gets comfortable with each other through the night.

This can be one of the most important undertakings you will ever embark on when it comes to sorting your beautiful home from lovely to stunning.

Create Artwork Yourself

Decking out your walls with the next Banksy or original Picasso is a fantastic endeavour, but sometimes it might not be the right fit for you. In order to fully apply yourself to your living space, creating your own artwork might be something that makes your move in that much more special.

It could be as simple as dabbing a wall of your living room with the multi-colored painted handprints of your family, or a painting of a local landscape you’ve done in your spare time. It’s easy to desire a home that’s filled with all of the modern luxuries and decors, but putting some good old fashioned heart into things can be a reward in itself.

Craft Wooden Furniture

Woodworking is a joy because once you realise how little effort you need to understand the fundamentals, you can be well on your way to making something of value. Crafting an object using hand tools will eschew the cost of a workshop setup. This doesn’t mean you have to create a four poster master bed just yet, but putting a simple table or box for storage together can lend you some credibility when you claim your home is your home.

Not all of us have the time, energy or even ability to learn how to craft furniture though, and sometimes more specialist areas like outside decking require more of a professional touch. In order to communicate your wishes with a reliable and talented service, consider using specialists who do decking DIY projects – technical data sheets.

Identify Colors That Please You

This is more important than you think. In order to fully appreciate the range of areas in your home consider trying to find what colors best reflect your personality. Are you a relaxed minimalist? White and light blues might be the best for you. Are you a jazzy, soulful personality? Oranges, reds and yellows are for you. Decide what style works for you and check out what arrangements you can make.

If you have a family, consider having an informal meeting and decide what everyone likes. Maybe your four-year-olds suggestion of ‘unicorns everywhere’ can be taken with a grain of salt, but for the most part identifying what makes your family tick and finding some way to reflect that in your home will make it that much more of a loving living space.

– a meal is not complete without desserts, right? Their cakes are so tempting.

– go natural using tubo (sugar cane) as the natural sweetener to your juices or slushes.

The Lemon Co
– thirst quench with lemon juices.

Seaside Saloon Bar & Grill
– serves beverages and drinks with alcohol.

If you have super active and at same time picky eater child, like mine, I’m sure you also worry if the nutrient from the food they consume is sufficient.
