Ian
Meet Ian, at the age of ten, he was diagnosed with a disorder affecting the development of blood-forming cells in his bone marrow. This condition requires frequent hospital visits for medical appointments, follow-up checkups, and laboratory tests. Over time, these became part of his routine, causing him to miss out on many experiences from a typical childhood. Instead of playing outdoors with other children, Ian often had to remain inside his home to minimize the risk of infection, as his weakened immune system made him more vulnerable than his healthy peers. His childhood was shaped not by games and laughter, but by quiet resilience and the hope that one day, he will be cured and could join his peers without fear.
MOA
SM Mall of Asia or MOA, located along the reclamation area within Manila Bay, is one of the malls that holds a special place in the hearts of many Filipinos. It is more than just a shopping destination — it is a place where memories are made. Spaces within the mall become havens of comfort, laughter, and togetherness — where bonding moments unfold over shared meals, window shopping, and simply enjoying each other’s company. In the Philippines, where the tropical climate often brings heat and heavy humidity, families seek refuge in the cool embrace of air-conditioned malls because it’s cool, inviting. No wonder MOA is perfect for spending time together, even if it’s just to sit, chat, and be present.
Ian, Make-A-Wish and MOA
Ian was one of the children granted a wish by Make-A-Wish. His heartfelt request was to spend a day with his parents at MOA. To adults, this might seem like a simple wish, but for a 10-year-old, it meant the world. Ian longed to bond with his parents, share meals, and create joyful memories together. What made this wish truly special was that, for one whole day, they weren’t thinking about hospitals nor medical concerns but instead, they simply enjoyed each other’s company. Motivated by the joys of that day, he committed himself to his recovery by faithfully following his doctor’s guidance, embracing a healthier lifestyle, and doing all he could. He wants to create more beautiful memories with his parents. Additionally, what made the experience even more special for Ian was meeting other children whose wishes were also granted by Make-A-Wish. It helped him realize he wasn’t alone and that there were other kids facing similar challenges and holding onto the same hope.

Make-A-Wish
Make-A-Wish Foundation is a non-profit organization that grants wishes to children with critical illnesses. The organization relies on donations and fundraising to achieve its goal of granting wishes to help children feel like children again, which can also give them the courage to comply with medical treatments.
Make-A-Wish plays a vital role in inspiring Ian and many other children. Through their mission, they let the kids feel like kids again, they offer hope and the strength to face the challenges that come with their illnesses. Ian, like so many others, is deeply grateful for the opportunity as it fuels his determination to keep fighting and hold on to brighter days ahead.
Ian is now 28 years old. As he pursues his career, he continues to monitor his health as well and together with his family, he continues to be grateful, hopeful and continues to create wonderful memories.
